Balboa Bay Resort Wedding

I don’t often post pics of the bridal bouquet but this one was colorful and so different to most I see, I couldn’t help myself.  Beautiful florals by Flowers by Cina xoxox

So gardeny, Soy’s vision brought to life!!

I love a glass base to a cake and florals amass under

Floral reuse – from the arch to the sweetheart table, works fabulously right?? The cake design was very special, Suzanne took their invite and put key elements on to the cake and if you look carefully you will see a 3rd wee item which is for their wee boy! So sweet.

Yes we did, As a nod to their culture plus she liked the idea, a RED dancefloor!!  Looked awesome later when she had her red dress on.

the tiffany blue was her pop, cake and napkins.  A pretty view from the sheart table

Pics above are all mine so sorry for them not being the best.

Till next time

Island Hotel fabulous ceremony & reception – Newport Beach

For nearly a year I had the pleasure of helping Danielle and her mom (her stepmom really but you would not know it, what a wonderful relationship they have and even dad made mention of it during his toast) and Dad pull together what I had no doubt was going to be a beautiful and fun celebration.

I had done wedding ceremonies at Island Hotel at their old ceremony area which is no longer there,  but not done any at their only outdoor area for ceremonies the Cabana Patio, so this was my first and it turned out beautifully.

The cake picture does not do it any justice, but that cake was beautiful, the pastry chef at Island Hotel really puts his heart into every cake, love him.

From the beginning the colors were black and white and we went all the way, black linens/napkins (from Luxe Linens), chairs and dancefloor and with the off white draping we added around the room (by TMMPRO who also did the lighting, we stuck with amber to allow the candle light from the tables to stand out more) the florals were able to stand out.  Beautiful job with the ceremony floral, draping and chandeliers by Flowers by Cina and in the ballroom too, lots of glass and candles, it was fabulous.

The pics above and below are a mix of mine and Jacqueline Kay Photography, love working with them.  Thanks to Design Visage for keeping everyone on time, unlike a couple of weddings I did after this one who did not use them and put everything behind so brides ended up with very little of the photography they may have gone in hoping to get.  We had Naples Strings for the ceremony and they moved to cocktails, so easy to work with, and to the team at Island with Deanna at the helm, we are lucky enough right now to be there once a month, and love being there, the banquet captains are fab and the hotel has such a great feel and because they don’t have a lot of ballroom space its like being at an exclusive/one wedding a day only venue/hotel, but not paying for it.

Wayne Foster Band did the mceeing and music, I LOED their grand piano that they brought in and put on the stage which is a feat in itself, not many bands do that, but let me add that it was covered in crystals, beautiful.

Then my new fave vendor from 2016, The Sugar Philosophers, Kim does a beautiful job, very elegant displays, our bride wanted this one colorful and it was.  This table was the placecard table earlier, I love reusing that table.

Older couple elegant wedding celebration

This wedding was wonderful.  An older couple who had found each other and wanted to celebrate with their family and friends, and this was one celebration where you could feel the love and genuine want for them to be happy/enjoy life together.  It was a January wedding and the ceremony was planned for indoors from the beginning, so there was never a worry about the wedding or it being too dark/cold outside.

Thanks to Karla at Elegant by Design for really listening and making the bride so happy, she was not really wanting many florals, so the perfect mix was created giving a very elegant/romantic feel, along with the full room draping we did and the round glossy/seamless dancefloor which was more full than I normally see, now whether that is because this group loves to dance, or the fact that my fave band, Full Spectrum with Adam Jackson, was playing, hmmmm not sure but could have been both!!  Thanks to the team at Island Hotel for being so wonderful to work with, this year we look like we are going to be there once a month. xoxoxox

Indian Wedding, Temple ceremony & Hotel Reception

So we had Jas and Lucky’s wedding in two locations over two days.  Teri was actually going to do both days as I was in Australia, but as fate steps in my return flight got changed on me bringing me home a day early, so I was able to jump in and be there on the Temple Ceremony day. Jas came in on a horse for the baraat and they exited the day in a  helicopter, inbetween lunch was served in the tent that was put up.

Frank Salas Photography (www.franksalas.com)

Frank Salas Photography (www.franksalas.com)

The next day their wedding reception was at the Bayfront Hilton in San Diego, we have done a few Indian weddings here now, as they have a great infrastructure, plenty of banquet space and different areas so for multi day and events the guests get to experience different views/atmospheres, and lots of hotel rooms so that means they are more willing to give great room rates for the guests staying.

Frank Salas Photography (www.franksalas.com)

Our groom was really into the design/look of the ballroom, the variety of centerpieces and table looks.  Our friends at Square Root did an awesome job with the ballroom, floral/linens/dancefloor/decal, and TMMPRO draped the room and provided the chivaris and we had Chivari Chair Rentals come and cover the seat cushions as we wanted silver not the normal white or ivory.  We had our friend Sandeep both days handling the music, we love him.  As you can tell by the photos we were working both days with our good friend and awesome photographer Frank Salas, Robles Video who has created a real niche in the Indian market were up bright and early both days (Friday was around 3am!!).  Dolled up by Lulu did the beautification both days of the ladies.  The team at Hilton Bayfront headed by Lisa Gossman were fabulous as always.

We bought Karla from Elegant by Design in for the Friday event at the Temple, she created the focal wall/picture backdrop area and had to redo the dining table two times when we changed the linens from breakfast to lunch, go EBD

Till next week

Our last wedding of 2016

463p0143 463p0151

Well, this was a special one, for many reasons and a wonderful way to end a great 2016. Our young bride is a cancer survivor and working with her and her mom over the past year was a pleasure.  Nicole was in charge the day of with Teri helping as well, so Cindi was in great hands with my ladies while I was living large in Sydney with old friends, thanks ladies.

From the get go we planned on the ceremony being indoors (it was the end of December), and the venue chosen was the Hotel Irvine which happens to have a lovely tent out the back (with a great ceremony lawn if you did want to do the ceremony outdoors) and a great courtyard for cocktails.  So above you see the portion of the tent we did the ceremony in

463p0353 463p0385

Displays that do get noticed…… we love a pretty placecard table and this pic doesn’t really do it justice, oh well.  The candy display was in the wedding colors and had special candies the bride and groom both liked and some from South Africa where the bride and a good portion of the guests came from, Kim who does these beautiful displays was my fave vendor find towards the end of 2016

463p0434 463p0440

And now the dining/dancing portion of the tent

Such a pretty color palette along with bling and candles.  We pulled together a wonderful vendor team to make Cindi’s dreams come true.  Thanks to Frank Salas/photo for the pics and always being wonderful to work with from our perspective and to our couples and their friends and family, Parallel Media for being unobtrusive videographers – we so appreciate that, to EBD floral/Karla as always you make my couples so happy when they finally see the dream vision become a reality, to La Tavola for the bling linens so thick and scrumptious, to my fave band always, Full Spectrum/Adam Jackson, thanks for being awesome we love you and the band and by the end of the night so do all the couples and guests, and to Flawless Faces for beautifying all the lovely ladies. Finally to Ebi and the team at the Hotel Irvine, thank you for being so great to work with.  We look forward to working with you many many times in the future.

So while the wedding was being setup and during I was getting pics texted to me by frank so I could see how well things were coming along, and he sent me the one above with our bride and groom on the ‘ice rink’, love it.

A great wedding was had by all involved and there to experience.  This wedding reminds us of why we love what we do.

Vibiana – Downtown Los Angeles wedding

img_3173  img_3185

I love doing weddings for siblings and normally there could be many months or years inbetween, but for this wedding I had done the brides brother’s wedding under a month prior.  So it was fun to see everyone, a lot of the same guests, so soon, like seeing my own friends again.  Plus I love the parents of the bride and my comment as they were leaving at the end was, I was sad they did not have more children to get married!! Boo hoo

So the two pics above show the two main areas used at Vibiana, outdoor ceremony and then indoors for dinner/dancing.  Cocktails are held in the courtyard to the left of the ceremony site, and its really cool to realize you are in the heart of downtown LA and look up and see old and new architecture/buildings, but not feel like you are in the midst of it all.

img_3187 img_3188

The pictures above were done earlier, note the lighting in the main hall and you will see it looking a bit different with a lighting change, and I loved how the Rabbi’s shadow is very obvious in the area we were going to be doing the ketubah signing.  It was a dusk/dark time for the ceremony, see below how lovely it was.

Sweetheart table and cake on the altar, and a view of the altar with lanterns and greenery reused from the ceremony.

Ronit had a totally different vision/vibe for her wedding than what her brothers was, and Wisteria Flowers captured everything perfectly and were just so wonderful to work with.

Great vendor team we assembled, thanks to Hom Photography for some of the photos above (some are mine), Design Visage for beautifying everyone fabulously as always, 90210 dj Nathan/have worked with him a couple of times now, and to Denise at Vibiana.

Ritz-Carlton Laguna intimate celebration

d20c0303 d20c0886

So I get a lot of calls saying, we are just doing a small wedding!. Not sure if they think that means the same decisions are not needed to be made or thought put into it, as larger weddings.  WRONG. The same decisions are needed and from a planner standpoint its the same work, just ‘moving’ less people around.

We do intimate weddings all the time and its becoming more the norm that couples wanting a Pacific ocean backdrop here in beautiful sunny S CA are cutting their guest lists down to be able to do their celebration at one of the top 4 hotels we have here in the OC, they may spend the same as a wedding elsewhere for 100 people, but for those lucky guests that are invited to one of these weddings, they get a more foodie or special celebration they are attending, plus with the smaller guest list you tend to invite guests that are coming no matter what day of the week you are getting married, they make a family vacation out of it, and that means for you with that flexibility great things, it could be a lower food/beverage minimum that you could now work with, it could be a bigger room that you would not have been able to get/use/afford for a Fri/Sat/Sun night event.

This wedding started with Angela’s mom calling and chatting with me because Angela was busy (as is also the norm, busy brides with work/life/families) and off we went, and bonus (because it was close to xmas and a weeknight the vendors that could, were more flexible with rates/offerings), it was a Thursday wedding.

I am seeing couples wanting to do unique seating with the smaller weddings, one row of chairs with a gap, one row no gap, spiral around the couple, circle around the couple, above you see another version.  And to make this even more intimate, our bride’s dad was the officiant, and he did a great job.

You also see that when its intimate  you can spend money on items you may not have had the budget for with a larger group, and you can get creative with the table setup in the dining/dancing room also.

d20c0896 d20c0903  sh5c0336 sh5c0344

After we did the budget and I understood priorities and vision/style, I was able to guide them to a great group of vendors to consider/select from, and these were the ones I was lucky enough to work with that night: Frank Salas/photo (thanks for the pics above), CA Bride for the over the top round florals, huge I mean huge!! Peter/Vive Ent my dj for many many years, Design Visage for always making the ladies look fabulous, TMMPRO for our seamless glossy dancefloor with decal/lighting and chivaris, and to our friends at the Ritz-Carlton who we have had the pleasure of working with for the past 15 years and really consider the banquet/setup team our family we are lucky enough to see often!! xoxoxox

Langham Pasadena wedding

image001

A November wedding which always had the ceremony planned for indoors, even though the weather was beautiful we still did the ceremony indoors and it really turned out beautiful.

Yes lighting is everything, especially uplights on a Chuppah.

Miri our bride had great vision and knew exactly how she wanted things to be and it turned out beautifully.  Great working with Butterfly Floral, TMMPRO for the lighting and seamless glossy dancefloor, and the team at Langham, some I have known and some I know now!!   This was the first of a brother and sister that were getting married within a month of each other.  Second one coming on the blog soon

Laguna Cliffs Marriott wedding

img_0987

This was Lisa’s backdrop to her destination wedding here in S CA.  For the 60 guests who came from all over the country, it was a perfect late afternoon wedding followed by cocktails and dinner and dancing under the stars, now where else in the USA could  you do that in October!!

Her photographer was a friend who travelled to come and take pictures and the pics above are a mix of mine and his, Nora the hotel florist did the flowers, Al of Alvarron Ent handled all the music and did a great job keeping the dancefloor full which kept them nice and warm when it cooled down a tad, and to Sandy and the team at the hotel, you are such a pleasure to work with xoxoxo

Indian wedding celebration-Hyatt Long Beach

img_1118 img_1119

Lovely Archana, she booked me after I had done one of her friends weddings (which was part of a reality tv show), with both of them being from Houston, TX.  80% of my couples do not live in CA but choose to get married here, why would that be you ask …..

that’s due to wanting to plan an outdoor wedding anytime you want during the year where it’s not too hot or too cold and chances of rain are slim,  the Pacific Ocean can be your backdrop, and what other location in the USA is a place guests are happy to spend their money to come and see you get married and probably have a vacation at the same time.  Make sense??

img_1121      img_1144

This post is going to be different to my normal ones as its a smattering of pics that were taken over the two day celebration and as well as the normal ceremony/reception room pics that we or the photographer took, John of Greycard Photo took some really great pics of the bride and groom and they caught my eye.  Above is the round mandap (my Indian brides tend to not be totally traditional, they like to add their own touch or edge) beautifully done by Shawna Yamamoto and team (I remember when one of my brides from about 5 years ago found Shawna, I had not heard of her at that time, and my bride said, she is up and coming Lisa, she is going to be big, and boy was she right!!!) and in the pics below you will see more of their work.  The picture on the right is the milni, where the brides family greet the groom to the ceremony area, at the end of the baraat, its a lovely tradition.

img_1150 img_1226 img_1227

This is my first wedding where the swing was incorporated into the ceremony, love new aspects and their reasons, see our horse departing after the baraat.  The middle shot was our couple in their ballroom which was very bling bling and was so pretty.  The end pic shows some round tables (and the new carpet in the ballroom) you will see more pics with the rectangle tables below.

img_1228

We loved these tall centerpieces, very florally chandelier feeling and bling bling.

wedd1

For the sangeet the night prior we went totally different in color palette and had a mendi area that Yamamoto created, turned out fabulously

wedd1011

The view the groom had as everyone came down the aisle towards him.  As indian weddings are so long most Indian brides are now providing the shade canopies which is a great thing and keeps more people in their seats during the cere, rather than seeking shade elsewhere.

wedd106 wedd108

The sangeet was a south beach/Miami type vibe/colors

wedd1171 wedd1179

The colors look so great in these pics above

wedd124 wedd1744

In the cocktail area of the sangeet the hotel has some wall dividers that had vases etc on it, our bride asked if they would take those down and we could put the gifty items for the guests there, kind of like a gifting station.  Very colorful and ended up being décor as well as a useful area.   Don’t even know where that bridge was, but glad John did!!

wedd1748 wedd1752

The hotel building is a really cool backdrop and both of these pics work, the close up and the more faraway one, the coloring is awesome

wedd1759 wedd1775

The ocean restaurant area lit up at night was a great backdrop, and the pic on the left was done on just a walkway but how cool is it!!  Just goes to show, if your photographer is creative/looks at everything and anything as a backdrop you can get great shots without having to go far

wedd1787 wedd179

No idea where this archy thing is, but again, pleased John found it.  Then loved the shot from above with the girls sari’s spread out like that – so creative and just on a plain old floor!

wedd1797 wedd1798

Different tablescapes

wedd1799

wedd1800 wedd1801

Great example above of the same table but with the different lighting that was used during the event

wedd1802 wedd1803

From the front top of the headtable to the dancefloor, note the reflection of the ceiling lighting, it all created a bling bling look/feel

wedd1807 wedd1808

We just loved the end result of the floral chandelier centerpiece.

wedd1819 wedd1820 wedd1896 wedd236

First dance at the wedding reception and guys dancing at the sangeet the night before.

wedd34

Love the reflection of the hotel in the water that surrounds the hotel

wedd523

There’s our friend Oscar that most of our Indian brides use for their hair/makeup and dressing.  We absolutely love him.  In fact at one wedding, Teri was up in the room with Oscar and the bride, he did her makeup too, lol

wedd582

Watching the baraat.  We love it when there is a spot bride can watch from but not be seen.

wedd626 wedd627 wedd636 wedd640

Great detail pics of our bride Archana

wedd647 wedd686 wedd713 wedd805

This hotel has such a great walkway for the baraat, scenic and doesn’t get in the way of anyone/thing, unlike when valet areas are being partly used etc.

wedd885 wedd931

Back to the brides mom and the groom at the milni, and a good pic of the swing.  The pic on the far right is our bride’s dad who has passed.

Teri and I both orchestrated the sangeet and wedding ceremony, then I had to leave once I got Archana up the aisle (I was never supposed to be there on the saturday wedding event but due to the beauty of an early morning ceremony I could, yay) to head to the wedding I was doing later that day (was so pleased I got to see everything come together after all the planning, but was really hard when as I sent her off and hugged her, Archana said to me, don’t go/please don’t go! ), Teri and the team did a great job and kept me in the loop for the rest of the day on how well everything was going and looking.

Great vendor group on this one, our friend Sandeep Kumar who runs a great baraat and is so easy/great to work with for sangeets and wedding receptions, we get to see him a few times a year and it makes us so happy, others mentioned above, and to the team at the Hyatt Long Beach, Melissa was a joy to work with and could not have done more for all of us to make things work out so well.

Till next time
