While they were off getting married at the church, Nicole was very busy at the hotel putting all the signs/pictures and items all around at the different areas being utelised for this great celebration.  Cocktails were on the upper lawn area with views all around.  An open air tent was put up which framed the area perfectly

A dancefloor was laid on the lawn and a stage for the band closed that area off to the lawn behind.

The after party was held in a fun round room and they partied on for another two hours.

Nicole did an awesome job keeping things flowing and ensuring everything was how our lovely Rebeca wanted it.  Thanks to Christeen at the Hyatt NB for being fabulous as always and to Aaron Young r the photos above.

You just never know!!

Was driving to the hotel excited for the wedding as I really enjoyed my couple and enjoying what a beautiful day it was and how much I loved my job and really, life is good, well ………. I had checked on the ceremony site earlier, checked on the bride, the dining room was in great shape, vendors arriving/getting their things going, my Nicole was in the dining room handling placecards etc, I went back to the ceremony site to get the guys florals and meet them in the lobby so they would be ready for photos, looked at the site and thought to myself, its a simple floral look but the pop of color looks good, took the pics above, decided I wanted a close up of the floral on the wood structure but didn’t want to zoom in, so started walking towards the front on the aisle and bam, over I went, lost my balance between the concrete lip/cobble/grass, I knew it was bad and as people were on me to help I said I needed ice and paramedics, yes I already knew.  This was 45 mins before the ceremony was to begin, no guests in the area, as they started to arrive the hotel staff kept them in the lobby thank goodness.  Now the reason why its great to choose a planner and vendors who work together more often than not, really is what saves a situation like this.  Immediately the videographer who I work with a lot, grabbed my phone and asked me who to call, so I started with get Nicole here and then an assistant to come in earlier than I had her coming, then husband etc.  By the time Nicole got to me and I told her to get the florals to the groom and explain she was now going to run the show, this gave me a giggle, she said to the groom, Lisa has fallen and I will be handling things from here, groom said to her, And she can’t get up.  Well yes Joe, I couldn’t get up, lol.  Paramedics were there within 2 mins of getting the call, I was in the Hospital ER within 13 mins.  Toshika and Joe had picked an officiant, dj, video, floral, that I work with a lot and that resulted in them doing things I found out later that surprised me but totally explained why things carried on without me as if I was there.  The officiant knew I was going to do a quick walk though with the guys, he went and did it, the florist helped Nicole give the rest of the personals knowing I normally do that, the dj totally worked with Nicole on the event using the timeline and going through it together just as I would have, so everything went as clockwork.  My timelines are very detailed, in fact I always use the phrase that they are that way, ‘so if I get hit by a bus anyone can pick up my timeline and run the event without having to second guess or ask questions’, and it was proven for the first time in 15 years that it worked.  The hotel staff were great, one of them worked with me at another hotel and knew how I did things and made sure the hotel was doing their part to keep things rolling.  As I was being rolled out by the paramedics (not through the lobby I made them take me a long way round) we stopped and yelled up to my bride as I wanted her to know I was ok and she was in good hands with Nicole and the vendors, by that time Nicole was up in her room and told her what was happening and Toshika came out on the balcony and gave me the thumbs up, off I went.

As Peter/dj Vive Ent said, well it wasn’t like you weren’t really there, you were texting the whole time you were gone.  I was, got to do something while waiting to hear what the heck had been done, I wasn’t running it more asking how things were going and it was going well which made it so much easier for me to be dealing with this situation.  What had been done, well broken and dislocated ankle, they put the ankle back in place in the ER, but my journey started from there and went through 3 casts, 2 splints, a boot, surgery which means I now have a plate and 9 screws in my ankle, and getting to use the worlds best invention, the knee scooter.  A trip to Europe had to be cancelled which was sad as I was meeting two of my sisters from New Zealand in Spain and going to have some special  time and there were events I did not get to go to over the first 4-8 weeks after it happened, but now I am 4 1/2 months in and grateful that each day I see I am closer to ‘normal’ but really have so much gratefulness for silly things like being able to walk up and down stairs etc, crazy but true.  But this post is not so much about me and what happened to me, but how important it is to work with a detailed planner who has a good team assisting her and then great vendors who have a history with the planner, who can all pick up and do more than just their job to fill in the gaps.  Individual vendors who don’t know each other/work together are just going to do their own thing and that is just not going to be enough in a situation like this.

The people pic above was done at the photobooth, that is my bride with my girls, the videographer and our fabulous dj, showing that all was well.  I also got videos from her during the night telling me what a great time they were having.  We have been in touch many times since her wedding, but as I tell her, I will never forget her anniversary date!!

Hyatt Newport Beach

Hyatt Newport Beach has such a variety of locations to have your wedding celebration at that its hard to call it a hotel, it has more of a feel of a relaxed country club with rooms and so gives someone looking for a hotel more of a boutique hotel feel than a resort or large hotel, yet in saying that they do conventions and corporate events all the time, so really, it seems to be the property that is all things to all people.  For Laura’s wedding she did her ceremony at their main location, cocktails in a location where you can see the back bay, dinner/dancing in their private courtyard, then the after party/dancing in their unique round shaped room and outside there we had a firepit and smores station.  N one could leave this wedding saying it was boring or the environment was bland as the event kept changing and evolving as the event went on.

We had firepit/sitting area for during the outside dinner/dancing portion but it was not dark until towards the end of our time there, so some women used it to chat, but it mainly just looked good!!

The after party room that started at 10pm, at this point the dancing had been going for two hours outside so I thought a lot of people would leave, but no, dancefloor was packed for a good hour, then people started moving to the smores station/firepit right outside, or their hotel rooms, or on their way home.  A great celebration was had by all.

Thanks to Jacqueline Kay for the photos, Design Visage for as always making the girls look awesome, their makeup looked as good at the end of the night as it did in the beginning, Naples Strings/you can spot them in the cere pic, Jenny B Florals-your team was great to work with that day, Tomgirl Bakery for dealing with a late delivery so we could have the cake out as short as possible in the warmth/heat, it was a hot day for sure but by the time the guests came to the dining area it was shaded, whew!!  And to Christeen and the team at the Hyatt, you are the best, love you!!

Hyatt Newport Beach

Had a lovely intimate wedding here in the Garden Room.  Have done a few over the past few years in this room and I love that it has a fireplace and is really has an friendly feel.  With this wedding we did the ceremony down in the Garden Patio right below the room and were supposed to do cocktails in the back area of the patio where the firepit was, but it was a bit windy, so we actually moved cocktails into another part of the Garden Room which then flowed right into the part of the room where the dinner/dancing was going to be held.  It worked out perfectly.

The bride is an international air steward so during the planning months was not really around much, so her parents took the bull by the horn and because they had a bit more time on their hands pulled the vendor team and vision together themselves (with the brides ok), the wonderful part of this was, they still went from my preferred vendor list I provided them with and would check in with me to see if they were talking to the right vendors for what they were looking for.  It meant on the day everything went smoothly, no dramas with vendors being unprepared or not good/quick at what they do, and of course, my couple and her parents being really happy with the end result.  They definately told me how happy they were with the vendors I had suggested.

Again, Eddie was wonderful to work with at the Hyatt, and Luis and the banquet team did a fabulous job.  Always a pleasure to work with them all.

Hyatt Regency Newport Beach

Well the above pic gives you the hint that the bride & groom for this wedding wanted something a bit bold and different.

From the beginning this couple had a feel/vision for their event and they spent many hours meeting with florists, djs etc, to ensure their end result was achieved by the right team.  The ‘normal’ florally wedding was not for them.  You will see that the pop of color was fuschia which stood out at the cere site, and in the ballroom it added a softness to decor that could have come across as very unwedding like/harsh/bold, as thecenterpieces were actually more wood and structured with candles incorporated, florals were minimal.  There are not too many florists that feel comfortable with this look but Shawna Yamamoto is and she pulled it off beautifully.  This is a design look where the monies are mostly in the artistic/organic design aspect not for the florals.  There were three different style centerpieces mixed in amongst square and round tables, with this look some of the centerpieces did stop you from talking to/looking at someone on the opposite side of the table from you, but it really wasn’t a negative, whereas with a ‘normal’ floral look it would be.  Of course fruitwood chivaris were perfect for this from  Fusion Linens & the draping behind the headtable.  We were in the Plaza Ballroom & Arbor area for the reception/dinner/dance, the room size was perfect for the number of guests we had and one side of the room was the entertainment side with a crepe station, magnet station, specialty coffee & dessert station.  Loe the Arbor area where cocktails were held and throughout the night there was always a small group out there enjoying the atmosphere.

I worked with the team from Impressive Video for the first time, nice group of guys and they did a same day edit which is always fun (stressful for the videographer) but always nice to see the looks of suprise from the guests when they realise they are seeing something that happened a few hours ago. 

Tim the violin/dj from Invisible Touch was the perfect guy for this wedding also, bit different/fabulous different, such a nice guy and easy to work with.  We had Tim play the violin along with recorded tracks for the cere & cocktails, and then a bit at dinner, but the dancing was full on party music.

Eddie from the Hyatt was not who we started with at the hotel, but was who we ended with and he was a pleasure/joy.  He is really going to be an asset to that hotel in the growth of their wedding business and getting their name out there.  He came mid season to the hotel and I ended up doing a few weddings with him and just love working with him and look forward to many more, as well as seeing him out and about at industry events as he is keen to come on out and see what is going on out there, which is a bonus for that hotel and the couples he will be working with in the future.

Hyatt Regency Newport Beach – Terrace Ballroom

Well it is so nice when you see a hotel that used to be the grande dame of weddings, get a redo in the lobby/public areas, and a new sales team that like weddings, and suddenly we find ourselves back here again, orchestrating celebrations that are looking for a boutique feel property that is in the middle of the fabulous OC/Newport Beach area.  We found ourselves in the  Terrace Ballroom room several times this season (very unique room as it is round so very fun to center everything), and below you will see just a few I picked to showcase, because they are all so different.  The big benefit to a smaller  property is the flexibility of the areas of the hotel, with all the weddings we did there, 2 different ceremony sites were used and 3 different cocktail areas, all with this one room.  Welcome to Eddie who is going to be the wedding king for 2012 I believe. We look forward to seeing a lot more of him and the great team there !!

The fabulous florals were of course Nisies Enchanted Florist, linens&chairs by Fusion, all music from  cere thru cocktails-dinner-dancing was Al of Alvarron Ent-perfect for this intimate/relaxed group, hair and makeup by Design Visage-always have everyone on time and the hair and makeup looks good until bride is off to bed!!  Custom favors/packaging by Luisa Chocolatiere-that was a fun tasting!! And another lovely ceremony with Paul Uhlar.

The photo below is courtesy of Bob Ortiz www.bobortiz.com   Bob has been a wedding photographer in the OC for many years, and I am sure, like me, he is pleased to see Hyatt NB back on the radar.  With the wedding below mom and the bride and I started from budget on.  The brides vision was always to have manzanettas for the centerpieces, mom not so keen, but by adding floral buds to the manzanettas we were able to soften the look and come to a compromise and everyone was thrilled with the end result.  As I was already booked for another wedding on this date, Julie booked our services for me to take them through the planning process/pull everything together, and then have  my Peni orchestrate the actual wedding day itself, and as always a great job by Peni.  Always hard for me, I get so invested in the visual and the details I miss not being there to see the end result, but I kept in touch with Peni so I knew how everyone was doing/how it all looked and how the celebration was going.
