Indian Wedding, Temple ceremony & Hotel Reception

So we had Jas and Lucky’s wedding in two locations over two days.  Teri was actually going to do both days as I was in Australia, but as fate steps in my return flight got changed on me bringing me home a day early, so I was able to jump in and be there on the Temple Ceremony day. Jas came in on a horse for the baraat and they exited the day in a  helicopter, inbetween lunch was served in the tent that was put up.

The next day their wedding reception was at the Bayfront Hilton in San Diego, we have done a few Indian weddings here now, as they have a great infrastructure, plenty of banquet space and different areas so for multi day and events the guests get to experience different views/atmospheres, and lots of hotel rooms so that means they are more willing to give great room rates for the guests staying.

Our groom was really into the design/look of the ballroom, the variety of centerpieces and table looks.  Our friends at Square Root did an awesome job with the ballroom, floral/linens/dancefloor/decal, and TMMPRO draped the room and provided the chivaris and we had Chivari Chair Rentals come and cover the seat cushions as we wanted silver not the normal white or ivory.  We had our friend Sandeep both days handling the music, we love him.  As you can tell by the photos we were working both days with our good friend and awesome photographer Frank Salas, Robles Video who has created a real niche in the Indian market were up bright and early both days (Friday was around 3am!!).  Dolled up by Lulu did the beautification both days of the ladies.  The team at Hilton Bayfront headed by Lisa Gossman were fabulous as always.

We bought Karla from Elegant by Design in for the Friday event at the Temple, she created the focal wall/picture backdrop area and had to redo the dining table two times when we changed the linens from breakfast to lunch, go EBD

Till next week

Park Hyatt Aviara

Funny how things work out.  Zula is best friends with a bride whose wedding I did five years ago.  Earlier in the year I got a message from my past bride saying her best friend is getting married and she has given her my number.  Never heard a word!  Then about 8 weeks before the wedding date I got a call from the photographer who had also done that past wedding, asking if I was available on the date (which was strange as I was available, I had met with a bride I thought would move forward with me and she didn’t, another fate intervention, I was not supposed to get it as I was supposed to do Zula!!), she was not booked for it either but felt she would be and wanted to give my name to the bride, as she thought she had someone helping her pull everything together, but it just wasn’t happening.  Well within 48 hours we were off and running and the bride was thrilled with how much we suddenly had done/she could relax knowing we were going in the right direction.

Our groom loves golf and they actually live down the road from their venue, so the ceremony was done with a golf green backdrop.  Cocktails were done by the putting green and guests could putter during cocktails, the guys loved it.

We ended up in a different ballroom to the one they originally booked, it would have been too small and not as elegant, and we ended up with a great outdoor area for relaxing after dinner with the new room

Another beautiful seamless/glossy dancefloor and logo by my fave vendor TMMPRO, he also did the chairs and lighting for me, love Jack and his guys.  The late night snack was freshly made warm cookies, just add icecream!!

A good close up of the linen from La Tavola on the cake table and the placecard table.

A custom Step N Repeat was in the foyer and after guests got their placecards they stopped and had their photo taken infront of it.  It was a popular place later for selfies I noticed.

In keeping with the golf theme, our martini luge was a golf ball on a tee!! Another great job by Carving Ice.  Next to that is our lovely royal table for the B& and their bridal party.  Nothing like a lovely florally/candle covered style dining table

It was great working with Irmina Photo again, been a couple of years as she had a baby and took some time, but she is baaaaack. Brandon Video did their thing and were lovely and low maintenance (they were a gift to the bride from my past bride), Father Don from Good Shepherd did a wonderful Catholic style ceremony.  We were going with strings for ceremony and cocktails but then I was at an event and a really cute girl was playing guitar and singing and I just knew she was right for Zula, and she was, so ceremony and cocktails were covered by her.  Their friend Vic who is a broadcaster and dj, came in from Florida and did a great job mceeing and playing music to keep the dancefloor full.  Our chargers and outdoor benches came from Monico Décor, florals were by Bella Florina, a florist that Zula knew/found.  And last but not least the team at Park Hyatt were fabulous and the grounds/hotel just made you feel like you were out of the hustle/bustle.  Looking very forward to my next one there early 2017.

Till next time

Indian wedding – San Diego

photo 10 photo 11

Can’t believe this wedding was nearly a year ago, thanksgiving weekend 2014!!  Boy time goes fast.

I really enjoyed helping Ragini and her dad pull their 2 day celebration together.  We started off with priorities, they were slightly different, they were considering here in OC/LA counties, San Diego County or Houston.  So after many phone chats, emails full of locations for them to consider, Houston was nearly a go and last minute San Diego pulled through.  I had done an Indian wedding at the San Diego Bayfront HIlton before, lots of space to do the various events in different areas and space for animals or whatever the groom may want to come in on (as you can see below my groom chose to come in in a Viper he ‘loaned’ for the occasion).  Since my last wedding there they had created a new ceremony site which is just lovely, and believe it or not totally fed into a key item for the bride, she wanted her ceremony in the round.  We had a few floral design meetings and Ragini was not looking for a traditional mandap at all. While brainstorming one day, hanging crystals came to mind, and we ran with it.  Ghost chairs of course matched that look/feel and look great at the ceremony, the sad thing is with my ballroom pics they really are ghosts you can’t see them but they are there!!! lol  Our colors for the ceremony were brighter/light blue/crystals/white.  We had 4 aisles/runners, and 1 aisle was decored as the main aisle.  Of course there was ocean glistening in the background and a beautiful blue sky to go with

Cocktails pre dinner/dance was held on a huge balcony that had great views over the harbor to Coronado Island and with all the traffic moving on the harbor and the lights of Coronado gave the guests lots of entertainment during cocktails.

Ragini was totally in charge of the cake design and it turned out fabulous.

We really played with the layout of the dining room, using a variety of table shapes and then three different types of centerpieces, black/red/silver were incorporated in all of them.  My groom loved the idea of a martini luge, so you will spot that below, an art deco looking piece

There are some pictures at the bottom that are of the Sangeet, that the grooms sister pulled together.  It was at the aero space museum in Balboa Park, my last wedding down there we did the Sangeet at the sport museum, so plenty of variety for whatever you want/need to make a statement for your pre wedding events.  We did lots of color for the florals and I loved the white vases that were used that really allowed the flowers to stand out as there was a lot going on from the ceiling in that location.

I knew Flowers by Cina was the right florist to match them with, and Melissa came through fabulously for both events.  Monico Décor handled the dancefloor and some furniture we had in the ballroom.  Chiavari Chair Rentals handled the ghost chairs and after we used them for the ceremony moved them to the ballroom for dinner.  The team at the Hilton was great to work with.  Of course most of the guests were staying at the hotel and its always so great for the energy of the celebrations and getting to know/see familiar faces over the course of a few days.  One of my fave Indian djs handled the sangeet but he was not available for the wedding night, but we ended up with a great party that kept extending on the wedding night.

San Diego Wedding Celebration

If you are considering San Diego for your wedding in the year of 2014 and would like an ocean backdrop, then the San Diego Hilton Waterfront has a deal for you.

As long as your wedding is booked from now on and happens prior to the end of this year their ceremony site fees have been reduced and their wedding packages for both lunch and dinner events are a great deal at $79 and $99 per person to start.

The ceremony sites have the San Diego harbor as your backdrop, and the inside of the hotel is very contemporary/bright/hip type feeling. I did a large Indian wedding at this hotel a year ago (where we also had most of the hotel’s hotel rooms) and the staff were excellent, and the guests had a great stay and the wedding celebration day went fabulously.

Let me help you have a fabulous wedding at this great location.

Till next time

San Diego Hilton Indian Wedding

Had a great two day celebration with this great couple who live in Chicago. It was a 350 person wedding, and not one person came from San Diego, everyone flew in from all around the world and the USA. It was a December wedding and the couple chose San Diego because they knew the chances of an outdoor ceremony and people wanting to come to S CA, would be pretty good. They were right.
The sangeet was held at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park, it was themed so we didn’t need to spend money on decor.
On the wedding day, we had two ceremonies, one earlier in the day indoors, then a second early afternoon on the lawn with the San Diego harbor as the backdrop (I can imagine in summer that has to look wonderful), and of course my Jigar came in on the elephant, he kept going back and forth on this or a horse, but he was a groom worthy of the elephant and it was perfect. The ceremony ended just as a good rain shower came down and it got a bit cool, but all that it changed was instead of the normal lengthy time of photos infront of the mandap with a lot of the guests, we did immediate family quickly and then the rest of the photos inside the hotel. Then everyone got to freshen up/relax, get ready for the evening event. The ballroom looked great, we had 3 different centerpieces which is a nice thing to do when you have 40 tables in a room to add a bit of interest/dimension, and the backdrop on the stage turned out fabulously. This is a new trend, panels being used at ceremonies and behind sweetheart tables, hips things up, and as with these panels when candles and flowers are added, it really looks fabulous. The night ended with the guests following the bride & groom down to the side entrance of the hotel where a Taco truck was waiting.
We had a lot of fun when the couple were in town for meetings, the moms laughed a lot, and the groom kept me laughing. A nice wedding celebration to end the year with.
A wedding celebration like this means a long list of vendors, so thanks to everyone involved, as well as the Hilton who were great to work with during the planning months and especially on the day.

The variety of 2012

Well as we are now at the last day of 2011  I am excited for the 2012 weddings already booked with me and those I know that will come  along as the year progresses.

I have some lovely couples I have been working with to find the perfect location for them, and some it has taken a long long time, but we did it in all cases.  So get ready to see updates or the after report on these location weddings I will be doing:

New to me will be the Flying Caballos Guest Ranch in San Luis Obispo and Parker Ranch/Trabuco Canyon, it will be nice to be back at the Biltmore LA, Laguna Cliffs Marriott, and of course at The Ritz-Carlton-Dana Point/StRegis/Hyatt HB (our normal haunts), and seem to have a few more church ceremonies with hotel receptions than previous years, and it’s nice to be getting calls from brides considering Ojai or San Diego locations that would like to work with me.

So as we end 2011, to my couples whose weddings happened this year, thank you.  I take a bit of each of you and our experience together and your wedding celebration with me into my future, and for the couples I will work with in 2012 I can’t wait.

HAPPY NEW YEAR & HERE’S TO A FABULOUS 2012 FOR US ALL

Till next time
