Hyatt HB Social distanced weddings

Well as we started to have couples wanting to have their weddings and adjusting them according to the mandates that may or may not have been happening or been clear, each hotel created perimeters/changed them as we went along and still are. What you see above if how Hyatt HB did things. No more than 6 (it’s now 4) at a table unless from the same household, stickers on dancefloor to encourage socially distanced dancing (no dancing except protocol dances right now) and after this wedding the cakes had to be no more than 2 tier to fit under an acrylic box that was made to keep the cake safe, because it was real cake. For the ceremony the chairs are spaced out in couples or singles and for most of the smaller weddings, 20 or less, each seat actually had a name on it so everyone knew where they were to be.

This wedding was for Rick and Evelyn, a fun couple who rolled with the punches for their July wedding, the last punch being me breaking my leg a week prior and being unable to get around in time for their wedding. I missed being there with them as they had mariachis for cocktail time (which i love hearing), but again, Nicole and Brittany made it happen and all went as planned and everyone was happy, and a great celebration was had.

Thanks to the vendor team on board for this one: Kevin Reeder/florist, Jeffrey Holmes/officiant, Duane Peck/photographer, Katella Bakery (I missed seeing my lovely cake delivety man) and of course to our team at the Hyatt Hb, can’t do anything without you and thanks for keeping everyone safe!!!!

Till next time

First micro wedding 2020 Hyatt HB

Well, the above wedding seems so long ago now, but it was our first step into what became known as ‘micro weddings’ thanks to covid, where couples had their weddings booked/paid for and if they wanted to keep their date/location had to adjust to what the new rules were at their hotel or county or state, and that my friends was a daily changing thing we have learnt to work with and probably even worse now, when we thought that 2021 would mean we would be free and clear, but not the case.

So with this wedding at the Hyatt Huntington Beach, guest count went down to immediate family only because of guests fear of coming/attending and the couple only wanting attendees they knew who/where they had been which would hopefully mean everyone would be safe. Ceremony chairs were spread way out and based on knowing how many singles versus others were spaced that way and their names were on their chairs. In the dining room it was max 4 per table/as you can see split so there was a good 6′ between couples/singles etc. The dancefloor was used only for first dance/parent dances, no guest dancing or socialising. After cake cutting and eating after dinner, chatting at tables, no mixing or socialising, it was over.

I can remember when the guests had left, Frank Salas/photographer (his pics above) and Peter/Vive Ent-dj and I all looked at each other and didn’t know how we felt but i think each hoped this was a short term thing and we could get back to ‘normal’ wedding celebrations very soon (we are all part of the All you need is love micro wedding package at the hotel, and Elegant by Design is the florist included, as well as Jeffrey Holmes/officiant). I will tell you i heard from the bride after and she was thrilled with everything, loved how it all worked out and felt it was better with the smaller group, so that was wonderful. Covid has definately made us prioritise/change ways of doing things and as the ‘season’ goes on you will see how i think most of the celebrations turned out way better than the original plan.

Hyatt HB Vista Ballroom wedding

What a wonderful relationship Lucrezia and her mom have, well that is probably because Lucrezia is so lovely, and she married lovely Hugo, so it was all just calm and lovely.  How lucky am I to have such lovely client’s.  The Vista Ballroom is the one we have done the most weddings in from the day the hotel opened, and what i love is that not two weddings have been the same, thanks to my couple’s varied styles/budgets/visions and the vendor teams we bring on board.  Don’t you love the backdrop to their sweet heart table?  Her mom was the one that came up with that ultimately and we all loved it.

Lighthouse Lawn ceremony, which normally does not go with Vista Ballroom but it worked out for them and we set it sunset facing.

Of course we had my fave round dancefloor and their custom decal was fabulous, all by TMMPRO along with the draping/3 walls, lighting/chargers/chiavaris. Plug Video was in the house, and Brent Edwards officiated/great job as always.  Napkins by Luxe Linens, Florals by Elegant by Design/Karla and team, and thanks for the photos Mr Frank Salas, always a pleasure working with him, so calm and easy and get things done & gets the shot!!  And to our friends at Hyatt HB, thanks for helping us bring wedding dreams to fruition.

Hyatt HB Huntington Ballroom

Really enjoyed Betty and Adam.  They booked us to handle the reception portion at the hotel only, they did not need us earlier in the day or at the church.  They were our first wedding to do the sparkler cans in the ballroom at Hyatt HB and boy we went through the ringer for that.  My fave moment of the night was when they were on their stage after the grand entrance and the sparklers went off and all the guests were dancing/clapping infront of the B&G and Adam looked at me and gave the thumbs up!

Their grand entrance was lead in by some traditional drummers and all the guests created a tunnel from the door to the dancefloor for them (this is something they all knew to do and do at every wedding) and their culture line dances, it was amazing to watch the majority of the 300 guests line dancing, very calming and peaceful!! of course they had a band and dj and inbetween that was the normal parttttyyyyyyy going on, lol.  Floral was by The Finishing Touch/Brandi & Doug, nice job as always, cake by Sweet Traders-don’t you love the cake topper (we saw quite a few custom ones in 2019) and the dancefloor/decal, stage cover, special lighting/sparklers, chargers/chiavaris were by my team of guys from TMMPRO.  Of course a big shoutout to our pals at Hyatt HB, been doing weddings there since the day the hotel opened, 17 years i believe, wowser!! xoxo

Hyatt HB – Huntington Ballroom

Another wedding where I pulled everything together and then Nicole oversaw/orchestrated the event on the day, can you see she has done a ton at Hyatt HB so is very familiar with the property and the staff, so you are in great hands with her!

Ceremony was on Lighthouse Courtyard lawn angled to the sunset, cocktails on Huntington Ballroom balcony and then into Huntington Ballroom

thanks to Lin & Jirsa for the photos, Design Visage did hair&makeup, Invisible Touch/Trevor provided all the music, and the team from Hyatt HB as always, a pleasure to work with before and during a wedding event xoxox

Hyatt HB – Huntington Ballroom wedding

Jackie and Jimmy got married in a church and we were only needed to handle the reception at the hotel, so I pulled everything together with them and on the day Darla oversaw/orchestrated everything as the B&G wished for.  They had a ukulele player during cocktails which was fun and different, then dj in the ballroom.

Thanks to Lin & Jirsa for the pics, TMMPRO for the dancefloor, BEL for the draping & chandelier, and of course to our friends at Hyatt HB, teamwork makes the dream work xoxo

Hyatt Huntington Beach wedding

Sometimes with our couple’s doing church ceremonies we are at the church also and sometimes our role is only at the hotel, as was the case with Urmi’s wedding.  She worked with me on the planning/pulling everything together and then on the day, Nicole was there and overseeing/orchestrating and because it was a big wedding, both Darla and Cece were there assisting her.

We had a mixture of round and rectangle tables and placed the dancefloor as a diamond which is a cool way to work with as many as rectangles to make all feel special close to dancefloor and not block the dancefloor off when it is square.  Thanks to Lin & Jirsa for the pics, Luxury Lifestyle Studios/video, Design Visage for hair/makeup, we had a lovely violinist for cocktails and a caricature artist too both of which are great when you have a longer cocktail time.  Thanks as always to the team at Hyatt HB, teamwork makes the dreamwork for sure xoxoxxo

Hyatt HB – Fun Vista Ballroom wedding

From my first meeting with Greg and Arlynne I knew this was going to be a fun one and i said to Arlynne, ‘your life is never going to be boring with this one’.  Greg constantly makes jokes and is just funny and he wanted the wedding to be that way and incorporate elements that guests would know he had input, Arlynne just let him do his thing and he took the lead.  He came up with some wacky ideas that i would at first say, yeah sure lets do that, then i would realise he was being serious and have to say, oh hang on let’s really talk this through.  lol

From the get go the donut wall was major, he really wanted donuts from his favourite store as everyone knows he goes there everyday, but unfortunately that was not able to happen so the hotel provided the board and donuts and they did them in blue which was the wedding color and did them in a heart.

From the Blue wands with bells that everyone waved during the ceremony when it took their fancy to when the Bridal Party exited the cere (the wands had meaning for the bride and were her one important item), the LOVE sign in the foyer, the mirror seating chart,  the best band ever (lol, as Greg and the guests were all saying at the end, and yes they did extend the band because that dancefloor was full and they couldn’t get enough of Adam and the Full Spectrum band), to the In N Out cake (also made by Sweet Traders that made the wedding cake) because everyone knows Greg also loves In N Out-that his bride surprised him with, that was the only item he knew nothing about and we pulled that off, whew!!  There was always something that the guest’s were saying, this is awesome, what a great time.

They sat at a small oval table with their bestman&wife and matronOH&husband and the guests were at rounds with a mix of tall/low centerpieces (florals all by EBD of course!!). To Jacqueline Kay Photography (the pics above are a mix of her’s and mine), Shane Productions/video, Design Visage for hair/makeup and keeping the ladies on time, TMMPRO for my fave round dancefloor/lighting/chargers/stage cover, thank you to our custom vendor team who got the vibe and made it happen, and to our friends at Hyatt HB always xoxoxo

And yes this is cake!!! from vendors to hotel staff to guests, people were amazed!!!  Someone even asked me, will it taste like cake or a burger, and what about the French fries?  Hmmm, good question, i had no idea and as we did not cut any of it, it went to the B&G room to enjoy the next day, i never asked, so we will never know, lol!!

Hyatt HB wedding reception

Hassan and Zoya were already married but were having a wedding reception/dinner/dance for family/friends at Hyatt HB in 2 sections of the Grand Ballroom, cocktails in the foyer/balcony.    I was in New Zealand at my niece’s wedding, so Kim oversaw/orchestrated things on the day.  The pics are a jumble because Kim sent them to me from her iPhone, I never got any from their photographer, but i wanted you to see the diversity of the weddings we can assist with.

Hyatt HB – Huntington Ballroom

I do a lot of cultural weddings, now what does that mean? Weddings that are for couples that their family history/background is not American, they have come from other countries – sometimes the couple came here when they were young, or they are 1st or 2nd generation born here, sometimes as with me one of the couple is American and the other is not so you incorporate traditional elements from the culture not represented, and sometimes they are couples coming here from other countries wanting an ‘American style’ wedding celebration.  I love it, my ‘job’ is never boring and you learn a lot about how others live/interact and most of all celebrate.

Sarah and David had a beautiful sunset backdrop ceremony with a style i had not seen before, they sat at a table at the front with the Islamic officiant.  See, learning something everyday.

The cere and ballroom looked beautiful thanks to EBD Floral as always, and TMMPRO for covering the stage/draping and the lighting.  They had a caterer that created this fruit display which everyone expects to see/have, but i have never seen a display like this, it was incredible.  Our bride was married in a jade green gown/traditional and then changed into an ‘American style’ white gown for the reception – she looked fabulous in both.

Thanks to Arash/Rugger Productions for the ballroom pics, Design Visage for hair/makeup, and to Viral Booth OC for the Photobooth that we surprised the guests with after dinner/they setup in the ballroom during dinner in one of the corners, so my guests had no idea until they started seeing people with pics, it was a hit.  Now the fun part of being a planner is especially with cultural vendors they tend to be a bit more, walk to the beat of their own drum, so not going to mention them but just say that when they were supposed to be in the ballroom for doors opening they were no where to be found and when i finally got the band leader on phone they had left property.  The father of the groom was livid but we had no choice but to wait.  Bride and Groom were aware and where normally with a non-cultural vendor this would be your last gig with anyone who ever heard about it, no one was allowed to let the band have it for delaying doors opening because they did not want to upset them/have them not do a good job or want to leave, and during the event guests were saying how great they were and they were going to hire them for their wedding (bride told me this) and thus we have the vicious cycle where vendors behaving badly, because guests and normally our couples don’t know what is going on behind the scenes, get to live and work again and probably keep behaving badly.  Crazy but true and this is not the first time I have dealt with naughty vendors for sure and i know it won’t be the last unfortunately.

till next time
