Ritz-Carlton Laguna Wedding

gleeson_0532 gleeson_0554

From the day the bride and her parents came to meet with me I knew we were going to have a fun time pulling this wedding together and then seeing it all evolve on the day.

The brides parents got married here at the Ritz-Carlton Dana Point 30 years ago and one of the Uncles had also been married there, so a real family tradition/location they consider personal is what this beautiful hotel means to them all.  So very special

gleeson_0941 gleeson_0949

Navy blue was a very popular accent or dominant color for weddings in 2016 and totally worked with the new carpet that appeared in the Terrace Room during the year, lol.

gleeson_0953  gleeson_0968

As you can see, my brides style was more natural and she wanted all low centerpieces and was not a colored/seamless/glossy dancefloor kind of girl, so we used the one provided by the hotel.  As always the balcony of the Terrace Salon with the furniture and firepits was very popular once dinner was over, and when I left there was actually a small group of guests still sitting out there not ready to call it a night (the B&G, parents and other guests were in the hotel bar).

We pulled together the perfect team, everyone was so happy to be there working on this wedding because they were just lovely lovely people.  Thanks to Frank Salas for the photos and being fab as always, Karla/Elegant by Design for ‘getting’ the vision perfectly, Peter/Vive Ent for the dinner/dancing music, to Naples for the strings for the ceremony and being so great to always work with, to Luxe Linens for the napkins and linens that brought the key color to reality, to Design Visage for beautifying everyone and being on time and always working with my schedule and to Paul Uhlar for doing a really great ceremony as always/we have done around 2000 together over the years, and last but not least our team/friends/family at the Ritz-Carlton Dana Point, its been 15 years of a beautiful relationship, happy brides and grooms/happy guests/happy hotel/happy Lisa!!

Last St Regis, Monarch Beach wedding

FullSizeRender

Here is the new Grand Lawn Ceremony site at the Monarch Beach Resort, formerly the St Regis Monarch Beach, and these pics are from a wedding that was planned for around 15 months and happened a few days before the name change.  So as things happen along the way, the vision our bride had for her ceremony changed with hotel changes and she didn’t end up with her final vision until a few days before, I think it looked lovely.  By taking away the rotunda somehow the ocean seems right there, and I now get more of a Caribbean backdrop feel, where the pool seems to end at the ocean.

Down at Club 19 we did a mix of round and rectangle tables.  This was a daytime wedding, so the colors really worked well and gave an elegant feel.  The ceiling treatment turned out perfect for Jennifer’s style, our original vision was about 15 chandeliers hanging in a variety of sizes and styles but that really was too shabby chic for her, and this more elegant ceiling was done by a vendor Jennifer found OCLA events, they really did a great job.

Jennifer and Brook lived out of town/northern CA but are fortunate that they come down often and always stay at the hotel, in fact their fave butler came down and sabred the champagne bottle for them prior to the toasts, so they were able to keep an eye on how the changes at the hotel were coming along.

These last two pics are mine.  The one above shows the chandeliers on, and the pic on the right show how huge the ceremony florals were that were repurposed to some of the dining tables.

Other members of this great vendor team were, Joe Latter photo/thanks for the pics above, Krieger Style dj (they had a guy they knew who was the dj, he let them down so they then spent time on a band that didn’t work out and ultimately ended up with my dj David,  the right guy, as always), Vantage Productions/Video, Elegant by Design/floral, Paul Uhlar/officiant, Wendy Smith/harpist,  Laura at the ST Regis and of course the setup/banquet team on the day.

Got lots of lovely weddings coming up this year, can’t wait to share them all with you.

St Regis Monarch Beach-Botanical Garden & Club 19

photo 2 photo 3

My lovely Brooke, a journey that lasted 1 1/2 years until the big day arrived.  We had such a great time and Brooke went through a lot of changes, left her job and went back to school, by the time the wedding came the groom was back at school too.  Moving from New York to another state, Brooke spent a month backpacking through Europe with her brother, 2-3 trips out here, which were always great and mom and Brooke and I enjoyed champagne a few times together, loved everything about the months of planning on this one and could not wait for the big day to be here and see everything become a reality.  The dancing/inside area of Club 19 was important, so we created a club feel inside and got a great band who kept the dancefloor full, Uncover Live under the direction of George.  Brooke wanted to do something different in the Club 19 area and I came up with the cabana idea on the lower patio, which Brooke loved and became a huge talking point of the celebration, and as the celebration went on more and more people went down there to relax and be comfy!!

  photo 5 photo 6

Brooke wanted to do a round menu card and I immediately said, fabulous, it can sit under the charger all night, perfect.  Classic Party Rentals created the cabanas and provided the furniture/benches down there, loved it.

photo 7  photo 9

We had a sweetheart table, rounds and had a great of 14 we could not break up so we had a rectangle table center stage, it all looked great.

photo144470020015 144470040003 DSC_3901

From the beginning Brooke wanted to do edible placecards.  So on the cocktail lawn our placecard table was center and the trays of hors d’oevures with guests names/table #s were easy to find and then enjoy!!

One of my favourite parts of the day, especially when I have lived and breathed a vision with a bride and gone through months of helping her get it started, finesse it and then see it become a reality, when I get to show my couples how it all turned out.

Fabulous chandeliers hanging, moss table numbers and beautiful flowers, Elegant by Design/Karla you are wonderful, thanks for bringing my words/thoughts to the reality I tell my brides they are going to see and for backing up what I tell them, they are in great hands and have nothing to worry about, their expectations will be exceeded.

Thanks to Julie Cate/their photographer they flew in from New York, for some of the pics above. To Paul Uhlar for doing a lovely ceremony as always. To Naples Strings for ceremony/cocktail music, and to Monico Décor for the rentals we used in the dining and dancing areas.  Last but not least, to the beautiful Kelly O’Dell and the team at the St Regis, you are all awesome, thank you.

Till next time

Destination wedding, from Scotland to St Regis Monarch Beach

0065 0070

Everything was done by email and a perfect celebration was held for these fabulous 13 people who flew in from Scotland for this wedding.  Of course we had a bagpiper to lead everyone from ceremony site to the dining room.  Cocktails were held on a balcony watching a beautiful CA sunset and a lovely dinner was held in the private dining room off Stonehill Restaurant.  Thanks to Joe Latter/photographer for being fab, and for the pics, Design Visage for beautifying Gillian, Annie of La Tulipe/floral designer, and Paul Uhlar for as always doing a great ceremony and giving the guests a giggle.  Fascinators in the house at the ceremony, I love the formality of weddings from commonwealth countries. Gillian also brought me some real shortbread that I savored with my cups of afternoon tea for many weeks after the wedding. Yum yum, happy Lisa.

photo 2photo 3

I got way behind in my blogging and it has taken nearly a year, but this is my last wedding I am blogging from 2014!!!  A couple of 2015 have got in the mix, but Chenine’s fab wedding ends my 2014 blogging.

Loved working with Chenine and her mom, we got a vision going pretty quickly, bling was important, blue and white.  Then we got our great vendor team pulled together.  On the day Chenine’s reaction when she saw her dining area I will never forget, it was wonderful.  The only thing missing and it was more my wishlist than their’s was a white dancefloor, oh well, lol.

photo 4photo 5

Thanks to Karla/Elegant by Design, for as always listening to my brides so their wedding is their wedding and does not look like any others we have done, thank you thank you.  Paul Uhlar/officiant, Al/Alvarron Ent-dj, Monico Décor for the rentals, and to my wonderful Frank Salas for always being a joy to work with and for making my couples memories even better when they see their photographers after, and thanks for the photos here.  And it goes without saying but I must say it, to the team at the St Regis for being five star/five diamond all the way.

Intimate weddings

0170

We get to assist couples with weddings all sizes, my largest was 1200 guests and smallest just the bride and groom.  Here is a lovely sweet wedding where it was the grooms son/daughter and grandkids, total 7 people, so lovely.  After the ceremony we had photos at the gazebo then the kids had a break while Grandpa and Barbara had photos done around the hotel, then everyone met at Stonehill for dinner.  Just a regular table where Elegant by Design moved the florals from the Gazebo to, and the hotel made a wedding cake for them to enjoy looking at then eat for dessert after dinner.  I helped Barbara pull the vendor team/vision/style of the event together, they lived out of state and everyone flew inand stayed at the hotel, she was just a pleasure to help and deserved a lovely celebration and memories  Thanks to Larry Crandall for being such a great guy who goes along with what is happening, and got me these pics to post. To Naples Strings/trio for playing lovely music for the ceremony and during the photos after.  To Paul Uhlar for always doing a lovely ceremony with just enough humour in it to be right, and to Noemi of Posh Beauty for enhancing Barbara’s beauty on her day.

Sunset Terrace/Plaza Room-Ritz Laguna

Here’s a fun wedding we did this year.  Black/white/feathers were the priorities for the reception, and letting the ocean backdrop shine for the ceremony.  All easy to do when you pick a beautiful location such as the Ritz-Carlton Laguna to have your celebration at.

Thanks to Tony Florez for the pics, Elegant by Design/Karla for bringing the floral look to reality, Design Visage for enhancing everyone’s beauty, Jeff/Moondance Dj, Chiavari Chair Rentals and Monico Décor for the rentals, and as always, our friends at the Ritz for always helping us pull off a five star celebration.

Ritz-Carlton Laguna, all outdoors

photo 2photo 3

Such a sweet couple, and my groom Luther was really my main help in pulling this wedding together for them.  He only wanted the best for our bride and wanted it to be perfect/special.  So so love him.

Our brides first wish, was a totally outdoor event, and their celebration was during the day, this could have gone so badly.  But as I always say, good things happen for good people and of course the weather was perfect on their day.  In order to get what they wanted they had to be flexible around dates the hotel could make it work, so we ended up with a Sunday late October.  We did the ceremony on the Gazebo Lawn which has such a beautiful backdrop then we escorted the guests from that side of the hotel to the completely other side of the hotel, where the cocktail hour was held cliff side, then the dining was on the Pacific Lawn.  We did use the Pacific Promenade ballroom foyer for the dancing/cake and we had a photobooth in there, as the restrooms are in there and people would be going in there anyway, plus if it did turn out to be a really hot day, people would appreciate the coolness of the marbled floored foyer.

Of course Luther and I pulled a great vendor team together. Paul Uhlar/officiant, Shane Productions/video, Al/Alvarron Ent-dj, and Elegant by Design/Karla-florist.  Thanks to Dina Marie Photography for some of the pics above, and of course to the always fabuous Rit-Carlton ladies and gentlemen who do their jobs so well.

Hyatt HB wedding

IMG_1259Longley_0991 Longley_2388

Sometimes its not until later that you realize you did not have time or got the pics you wanted on a wedding to post.  So I am blogging this wedding but don’t have the pics I wish I did.

James and Emma came from London for their wedding, and so did 30ish of their family and friends.  Such a fun bunch, we even did a selfie with everyone in it, including me, that they instagrammed for everyone at home to see the fun they were having.

My brides seem to always be ahead of things, in 2014 I had 3 brides do/want to do babies breath for their florals.  Emma did only baby’s breath and it looked lovely from ceremony to dining table.  They wanted everyone to feel as important as each other/see each other, so the dining room was set up in a u-shape with people only around the sides and the dancefloor in the middle.  Emma does events for a hotel in London and focused on the little details, note the table setting above.

They did not want a dj, had an ipod with songs on, in my mind this never makes for a dance party, but had to eat my words as on this one, after dinner the music went on and they danced for 3 hours, they had a great time.

Thanks as always to a great vendor team and Emma and James trusting me with who I knew they should work with, Paul Uhlar/officiant, Karens Flowers, Monico Décor, Wendy Smith/Harpist, thanks to Jim Kennedy/Amber for the tall centerpiece shot above, and as always to the team at Hyatt Huntington Beach.

As a side note, Emma and James have already celebrated their 1st anniversary and came back to Huntington Beach.

Till next time

Ritz-Carlton Laguna wedding

LarryCrandall_Ritz_0056a

LarryCrandall_Ritz_0157

I am so fortunate that for 15 years I have had the honor of looking at this backdrop for so many weddings.  For many brides like Kelsey they live out of state or out of the country and they choose this spot out of the whole world for many reasons, so a lot of trust is put into me and our relationship.

Our bride wanted her ceremony on the grass, so we moved from the normal Terrace area to the grass next door, cocktails were held on the balcony, and the dining/dancing/socializing was done in the Plaza Room and on the balcony, giving the guests from all over the world the view that reinforced to them why the B&G chose this location out of all the world, and that they spent their money/time wisely to come and experience how special this is.

Her vendor team is one of my favourites, we all know each other and everyone comes and does their job 120% to ensure all goes as planned.  So a big thanks to: The ladies and gentlemen of the Ritz-Carlton of course, upstairs and downstairs. Larry Crandall/photographer, bit thanks for the pics showing here.  Design Visage for beautifying everyone as always.  Newport Bay Productions/video, Paul Uhlar/officiant, Naples Strings, Bill/dj. Monico décor for the rentals, and to White Flite for our dove release, I always love the moment that the guests realize what is happening and hearing the oohs and aaahs.
