Hyatt HB Social distanced weddings

Well as we started to have couples wanting to have their weddings and adjusting them according to the mandates that may or may not have been happening or been clear, each hotel created perimeters/changed them as we went along and still are. What you see above if how Hyatt HB did things. No more than 6 (it’s now 4) at a table unless from the same household, stickers on dancefloor to encourage socially distanced dancing (no dancing except protocol dances right now) and after this wedding the cakes had to be no more than 2 tier to fit under an acrylic box that was made to keep the cake safe, because it was real cake. For the ceremony the chairs are spaced out in couples or singles and for most of the smaller weddings, 20 or less, each seat actually had a name on it so everyone knew where they were to be.

This wedding was for Rick and Evelyn, a fun couple who rolled with the punches for their July wedding, the last punch being me breaking my leg a week prior and being unable to get around in time for their wedding. I missed being there with them as they had mariachis for cocktail time (which i love hearing), but again, Nicole and Brittany made it happen and all went as planned and everyone was happy, and a great celebration was had.

Thanks to the vendor team on board for this one: Kevin Reeder/florist, Jeffrey Holmes/officiant, Duane Peck/photographer, Katella Bakery (I missed seeing my lovely cake delivety man) and of course to our team at the Hyatt Hb, can’t do anything without you and thanks for keeping everyone safe!!!!

Till next time

From Hawaii to OC due to Covid

This wedding makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy because they are the cutest couple ever, and the second wedding I have done for the groom’s family who, small world, was marrying a sweet bride that happens to work at a hotel i work at all the time, and she had heard of me, but it was the groom’s mom who reached out and said, time for the next wedding, but fate brought us all together anyway. love it, Sad reason #1, there is only 2 children in the family and i did both their weddings, so now have to wait for friends and relatives, but i love that family!!
These 2 pics are from an iphone not the photographer because i could not see these exact looks i wanted in her pics so i got them from one of our assistants.

Sad reason #2: We were supposed to be doing the wedding at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, we had all gone over and scoped the space/all outdoors with ocean backdrop, they had done a tasting, and we were all really looking forward to it, plus i could add another Ritz-Carlton in the world to my resume!!

But as things work out, even though we really held off as long as we could, wedding was July 20, and as long as Hawaii was not going to make everyone quarantine as of June 1, we were still all going, well last week of May the Governor of Hawaii extended the quarantine until end of July/August, and as I am typing this in 2021 I can report he kept it in place until Oct 15 where if travelling after that and providing a negative covid test from their providers you did not have to quarantine, so we did the right thing by 1st week of June realising we needed to find a venue here in S CA. First plan was something with a Hawaiian vibe, so we found one in San Diego, liked it, but they had a lot of what seemed to be excessive rules due to covid, again, now we are in 2021 and look back, their rules were smart!! So not working for us, mom found a hotel venue in the OC that i was never really feeling was right for this wedding and after she had signed the contract the hotel came back with new rules that were definately not working for the couple, so we ended up at the hotel i had suggested from the getgo because i knew we could make it exciting/different and could kind of make not doing it in Hawaii aok. The Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach. Yes. We did the ceremony with the ocean/palm tree backdrop, did cocktails with that same view, and dinner/same view with a lovely water feature backdrop to our royal table. Then to suprise everyone, after dinner, the B&G lead the guests up the elevators to the rooftop bar/lounge area where we had dancing/socialising with 180 degree awesome views of the Pacific from Long Beach to Laguna. What were guests saying?? Are you kidding me?? amazzzzzing. Wow. Awesome.

Sad reason #3, the day before i broke my leg and was still in hospital when this wedding was happening!!! I was so mad at covid, because we would have been in Maui already and i would not have been doing what i was doing in my backyard!! In the ambulance from my house to the hospital, i called Nicole and said, i think you need to be prepared to get a call from me to come help tomorrow as i may not be very mobile, so got her set. Unfortunately the surgeon laughed when he gave me option of surgery that night or tomorrow and i said, well tonight please as i have a wedding to do tomorrow. Oh no he said, you won’t be doing a wedding tomorrow. So again, call to Nicole, you are full on tomorrow/no me. I was never worried as she totally knows what she is doing/to do/works from my timelines all the time and was working with Brittany, so i knew all would be fine between the two of them. And thank goodness, when i had to call the mom and tell her, she also knew that i would not send anyone who would screw things up, so they were all good to go/relaxed and enjoyed the wedding celebration as if i was there, i don’t think they even missed me, lol

As you can see from the pics above, all turned out lovely. We obviously had to get a new florist and karla/EBD floral stepped in and got the vision immediately, we brought the tropical/Hawaii feel to Huntington Beach, a new dj/DJ Griff a multi friend referral, but were lucky as the photographer was coming to Hawaii so she just didn’t have to fly so far, Andrea David, and the pics above/not iphone ones, are hers. Design Visage beautified the ladies and kept them on time as always. A friend officiated/she was going to do it in Hawaii also. A tropical duo for pe cere/cocktails and during dinner to again feel the hawaiian vibe, Naples String trio for ceremony, and a big thanks to the team at Waterfront Beach Resort, Vanessa jumped right in as she always does when i reach out and made it happen/work for me, love you lady xoxoxox

First micro wedding 2020 Hyatt HB

Well, the above wedding seems so long ago now, but it was our first step into what became known as ‘micro weddings’ thanks to covid, where couples had their weddings booked/paid for and if they wanted to keep their date/location had to adjust to what the new rules were at their hotel or county or state, and that my friends was a daily changing thing we have learnt to work with and probably even worse now, when we thought that 2021 would mean we would be free and clear, but not the case.

So with this wedding at the Hyatt Huntington Beach, guest count went down to immediate family only because of guests fear of coming/attending and the couple only wanting attendees they knew who/where they had been which would hopefully mean everyone would be safe. Ceremony chairs were spread way out and based on knowing how many singles versus others were spaced that way and their names were on their chairs. In the dining room it was max 4 per table/as you can see split so there was a good 6′ between couples/singles etc. The dancefloor was used only for first dance/parent dances, no guest dancing or socialising. After cake cutting and eating after dinner, chatting at tables, no mixing or socialising, it was over.

I can remember when the guests had left, Frank Salas/photographer (his pics above) and Peter/Vive Ent-dj and I all looked at each other and didn’t know how we felt but i think each hoped this was a short term thing and we could get back to ‘normal’ wedding celebrations very soon (we are all part of the All you need is love micro wedding package at the hotel, and Elegant by Design is the florist included, as well as Jeffrey Holmes/officiant). I will tell you i heard from the bride after and she was thrilled with everything, loved how it all worked out and felt it was better with the smaller group, so that was wonderful. Covid has definately made us prioritise/change ways of doing things and as the ‘season’ goes on you will see how i think most of the celebrations turned out way better than the original plan.

Pelican Hill Resort Wedding 2020

Well we managed to get this wedding done March 15, 2020, the day before pretty much everyone in the USA went under shelter at home and no gatherings of more than 50 people which went down to 10 people within a day.  As I said to the mom of our groom (who was just a doll to deal with from beginning to end and wants to come work with me!!) where she was thinking the fall out of guests in the week leading up to the wedding was stressful, at least we got to have their beautiful wedding and it was such a wonderful celebration for a really really cool/awesome couple, so many after that date through now and probably mid June, hopefully not longer, I have an end of June wedding holding on tight hoping they can have their wedding as planned, have not been able to have their weddings.  I have had 6 weddings from April-mid June move dates and look very forward to the day we can celebrate them, it will be worth the wait for all.

But I digress, the Groom’s mom and bride had an inspiration pic they had been carrying around and we pretty much duplicated it.  Mom has great style and really wanted to make this wedding special, she loves her daughter in law to be and had special touches added that really personalised the wedding for them.

Thanks to TMMPRO for the rotunda draping & behind the band stage also/lighting in the ballroom +bistro lighting over cocktail patio, and the band stage cover, Simply Sweet Cakery for the wedding cake and the hidden Mickey that was special for the bride, Karla at Elegant by Design for as always putting your heart into my weddings, another beautiful job.  We had my new fav vendor Amy Serrano play the acoustic violin for the ceremony and switch it up to the electric violin with her led bow for cocktails, she has such great energy and loves what she does, the dinner/dancing was done by On demand who I have worked with a few times in the past year or so, and we had a taco cart for late night snacks as a surprise to the guests and that went down very well.  And to Miki & Sonja for being so lovely to work with and for the good pics in this post (mine are the bad ones) and to Lin & Jirsa for video on this one.

To our lovely ladies at Pelican, it was a tough day for staff there as they knew they were not going to be working for a while after, but everyone pulled through and helped me create a wonderful wedding for this special couple, our groom’s mom, and the guests who I know are not going to ever be sorry for making it to this wedding. xoxxo

Now the only good thing to come out of coronavirus is, this post makes the end of me sitting here for the past 2-3 weeks and getting caught up on nearly 3 years worth of wedding blogs/posts of weddings during that time and travel blogs that i have been meaning to do, it was nearly 200, and a lot of work, but if it wasn’t for coronavirus i would have never found or had the time to do this.  So I am now going to drink some champagne to celebrate being caught up and hopefully have a little down time before we go crazy with a years worth of weddings happening in 6 months of what will be left of 2020. Fingers and toes crossed.

Till next time

Fabulous Hyatt HB wedding

Keith and Heather were extremely busy.  They had reached out to me a few times about booking me but it just never happened, until one day about 6 weeks before they said, Lisa we need to get this going, so we did.

They were a Custom/Full Service couple which means they get to choose how much or little they want to do/be involved in and i handle everything they don’t.  So very few options or no options to make it easier/quicker.  The first thing we do is a budget where i get a really good feel for their style/vision and most of all budget, this gives me direction for who the vendor team should be.  Heather’s favourite colors are red/white/black, do ya think I nailed that with the end design/look?  lol.  I brought Square Root on to do the florals as I knew they would execute the vision perfectly and of course they did, TMMPRO did the black dancefloors, the walkway at the ceremony and my fave round one in the ballroom, both with their custom decal on them, lighting, B&G sofa, draping/chiavaris  & chargers.  Luxe linens for the lines & napkins. Design Visage for hair/makeup, Peter/Vive Entertainment for all the music, Viralbooth OC for the surprise Photobooth after dinner in the foyer, Frank Salas for the fabulous pics, and Sweet Traders for the fabulous cake, and of course to our friends at Hyatt Hb, can’t do anything without all of you!! xoxox

Now I was in New Zealand for my nieces wedding on this date, so Kim orchestrated/oversaw everything on the day and did an excellent job (we were in communication the whole time via text and pics, and it’s always cool when the vendors text me too to get my aok on what they are doing, love them), so I missed seeing Heather’s face when she saw the Vista Ballroom for the first time, but from Kim and the vendors and from both Heather and Keith telling me, Heather was blown away.  I don’t think she could visualize it really plus she was too busy to really think about it, so I was really happy to hear it was even better than she could have imagined.

But the wedding wasn’t the end of our time together, while I was still in New Zealand Keith calls me and says, ok, now lets get the honeymoon done (they couldn’t think about that prior to the wedding due to their jobs) and so I got to send them down to Jamaica where they stayed in an overwater bungalow with a butler and had a wonderful honeymoon, they are supposed to be going back for their 1st year anniversary but coronavirus may be putting a delay to that unfortunately, but i will get them back there, and by the way, they now won’t vacation without the butler service, lol!!

Till next time

Hyatt HB Vista Ballroom wedding

What a wonderful relationship Lucrezia and her mom have, well that is probably because Lucrezia is so lovely, and she married lovely Hugo, so it was all just calm and lovely.  How lucky am I to have such lovely client’s.  The Vista Ballroom is the one we have done the most weddings in from the day the hotel opened, and what i love is that not two weddings have been the same, thanks to my couple’s varied styles/budgets/visions and the vendor teams we bring on board.  Don’t you love the backdrop to their sweet heart table?  Her mom was the one that came up with that ultimately and we all loved it.

Lighthouse Lawn ceremony, which normally does not go with Vista Ballroom but it worked out for them and we set it sunset facing.

Of course we had my fave round dancefloor and their custom decal was fabulous, all by TMMPRO along with the draping/3 walls, lighting/chargers/chiavaris. Plug Video was in the house, and Brent Edwards officiated/great job as always.  Napkins by Luxe Linens, Florals by Elegant by Design/Karla and team, and thanks for the photos Mr Frank Salas, always a pleasure working with him, so calm and easy and get things done & gets the shot!!  And to our friends at Hyatt HB, thanks for helping us bring wedding dreams to fruition.

Hyatt HB Huntington Ballroom

Really enjoyed Betty and Adam.  They booked us to handle the reception portion at the hotel only, they did not need us earlier in the day or at the church.  They were our first wedding to do the sparkler cans in the ballroom at Hyatt HB and boy we went through the ringer for that.  My fave moment of the night was when they were on their stage after the grand entrance and the sparklers went off and all the guests were dancing/clapping infront of the B&G and Adam looked at me and gave the thumbs up!

Their grand entrance was lead in by some traditional drummers and all the guests created a tunnel from the door to the dancefloor for them (this is something they all knew to do and do at every wedding) and their culture line dances, it was amazing to watch the majority of the 300 guests line dancing, very calming and peaceful!! of course they had a band and dj and inbetween that was the normal parttttyyyyyyy going on, lol.  Floral was by The Finishing Touch/Brandi & Doug, nice job as always, cake by Sweet Traders-don’t you love the cake topper (we saw quite a few custom ones in 2019) and the dancefloor/decal, stage cover, special lighting/sparklers, chargers/chiavaris were by my team of guys from TMMPRO.  Of course a big shoutout to our pals at Hyatt HB, been doing weddings there since the day the hotel opened, 17 years i believe, wowser!! xoxo

Hyatt HB intimate Vista Ballroom wedding

Had the honor of helping Dean and Michael with their wedding celebration .  They were just a pleasure (as all my guys have been) to work with.  It was an intimate group of 37, they were originally in Sandpiper but Vista Ballroom was available and the hotel offered it to them, they were a bit hesitant but I knew we could make it look good and no one ever complains about too much space, right!!

We put the dancefloor+decal at a diamond shape with sheart table at one point/cake at the opposite point and that gave us 4 sides for each of the guest tables to be beside, so everyone was around the dancefloor , TMMPRO provided the dancefloor/decal/lighting & chargers. Duane Peck was the photographer, I think the bottom pic is his the rest are off my iPhone i believe, Luxe Linens provided linens/napkins, and Sweet Traders did the awesome cake you see there.  Touch of Lavender florist and DJ Diamond they found on their own and they did a great job for our couple on the day.

80% of my couples do not live in CA, so working by email/phone to pull everything together is no problem for me, and that was a good thing with this couple as, one groom is in the military and was in Iraq for most of the planning months and we emailed back and forth and had a couple of conversations while he was there, and the other groom is  English and works for an airline and was in England/Europe most of the time.  Again, not a problem for me and it all turned out aok!

Of course we always owe a big hug to the team at Hyatt HB, teamwork makes the dream work.

Hyatt HB Indian Wedding

This blog will give you a good feel for the special moments/elements of a wedding day celebration, thanks to Andrew Kwak Photo for the pics.  Hair and makeup was a collaboration between Drea and Lulu, Daisy the horse was there of course, and Sound Nation/Raj kept things going from the baraat with the dohl player through to the end of the evening dinner/dance.  Thanks to our friends at Hyatt HB as always too xoxo

the pics above are when the bride and groom leave after the ceremony (normally done around 11am so it is done by noon) and luncheon to follow, for the grooms family home.  The vehicle they leave in varies, i have had everything from luxury car as above to helicopter to yachts!!  It’s a really emotional time for the bride and her parents and family because life as they knew it with her at home/in the family will now be different/change.  The good news is, on this day, they make it back in time to get ready for the dinner/dance celebration, yayyyyy

Hyatt HB Huntington Ballroom wedding

Our bride had dreamed of her wedding for a long time, so anything that could be added to make it perfect, she did.  She added a chandelier to the ceiling in Huntington Ballroom, her ceremony floral circle got moved to behind the cake, we draped and at the ceremony she had lovely words of love on boards going down the aisle, doves/White Flite were released at the end of the ceremony, a string trio played ceremony music, mariachis played at cocktails, and a band and dj were in the ballroom, Katella Bakery did an awesome job with her cake vision.  The ceremony was at CA Courtyard, cocktails were Huntington Ballroom balcony & foyer, and then into the ballroom.  Face it Sugar did hair&makeup.  Kudos to The Finishing Touch/Brandi & Doug, a lot of work but it all came together and looked beautiful.  And of course to our friends at the Hyatt HB, kudos xox
