Pelican Hill Resort Wedding 2020

Well we managed to get this wedding done March 15, 2020, the day before pretty much everyone in the USA went under shelter at home and no gatherings of more than 50 people which went down to 10 people within a day.  As I said to the mom of our groom (who was just a doll to deal with from beginning to end and wants to come work with me!!) where she was thinking the fall out of guests in the week leading up to the wedding was stressful, at least we got to have their beautiful wedding and it was such a wonderful celebration for a really really cool/awesome couple, so many after that date through now and probably mid June, hopefully not longer, I have an end of June wedding holding on tight hoping they can have their wedding as planned, have not been able to have their weddings.  I have had 6 weddings from April-mid June move dates and look very forward to the day we can celebrate them, it will be worth the wait for all.

But I digress, the Groom’s mom and bride had an inspiration pic they had been carrying around and we pretty much duplicated it.  Mom has great style and really wanted to make this wedding special, she loves her daughter in law to be and had special touches added that really personalised the wedding for them.

Thanks to TMMPRO for the rotunda draping & behind the band stage also/lighting in the ballroom +bistro lighting over cocktail patio, and the band stage cover, Simply Sweet Cakery for the wedding cake and the hidden Mickey that was special for the bride, Karla at Elegant by Design for as always putting your heart into my weddings, another beautiful job.  We had my new fav vendor Amy Serrano play the acoustic violin for the ceremony and switch it up to the electric violin with her led bow for cocktails, she has such great energy and loves what she does, the dinner/dancing was done by On demand who I have worked with a few times in the past year or so, and we had a taco cart for late night snacks as a surprise to the guests and that went down very well.  And to Miki & Sonja for being so lovely to work with and for the good pics in this post (mine are the bad ones) and to Lin & Jirsa for video on this one.

To our lovely ladies at Pelican, it was a tough day for staff there as they knew they were not going to be working for a while after, but everyone pulled through and helped me create a wonderful wedding for this special couple, our groom’s mom, and the guests who I know are not going to ever be sorry for making it to this wedding. xoxxo

Now the only good thing to come out of coronavirus is, this post makes the end of me sitting here for the past 2-3 weeks and getting caught up on nearly 3 years worth of wedding blogs/posts of weddings during that time and travel blogs that i have been meaning to do, it was nearly 200, and a lot of work, but if it wasn’t for coronavirus i would have never found or had the time to do this.  So I am now going to drink some champagne to celebrate being caught up and hopefully have a little down time before we go crazy with a years worth of weddings happening in 6 months of what will be left of 2020. Fingers and toes crossed.

Till next time

Balboa Bay Resort Wedding

Always nice to be back at BBR.  Grant and Nancy booked a small service where they would have all vendors on board/everything done when it officially began.  After meeting them and getting our detail meeting underway when their service officially began, I noticed that was i was seeing/feeling for the style/look of the wedding did not seem to match Nancy and her personality.  In chatting more it became apparent she had had not idea what she wanted and was busy and just kind of went along with things, so between The Finishing Touch/Brandi and I we redesigned the whole look/feel of everything and it turned out beautifully and they were really happy.  The difference with booking a small service with us is that we still care and are not order takers/just get it done because you are paying less and even though what they were going to do may have been fine but then again, would she have ever loved her photos/good memories of how things looked, we will never know, i just know that with the vendors i work with constantly my couples get a better look/feel than if they went rental/vendor shopping on their own.

They were not doing a white dancefloor but we switched out some rentals they were getting/paying more for and by me organizing the rentals they spent $200 more and got a beautiful dancefloor+decal along with the other rentals they were already doing.  It really was a statement piece and elevated the celebration with elegance to go along with the white/gold we used in the rest of the décor/elements.

In the Bayview Room (where we did one of the first weddings after they turned it from a restaurant to banquet space a few years ago) there are 3 openings that go to the bar, we used the center one as the backdrop/sweetheart area giving the 2 side ones for access in/out, much better.  I love this pic of the groom just before we had the bride/ladies come down to the cere site, this is where they would enter the ceremony through

thanks to Eric/West Imagery for being so nice and easy to work with before and on the wedding day and for the pics above, my iPhone ones are below and a bit brighter/colors more vibrant, as the day was definitely not gloomy, but that again just shows that every photographer has their own style/look and as couples you pick the person whose work you like/want, but it can change in your memory how things were.

Thanks to Grace & Honey cakes for the beautiful cake, TMMPRO for the dancefloor/decl, chairs & chargers, The Finishing touch/Brandi&Doug for the floral/décor, Design Visage for hair&makeup, Ben Mallare Band and of course the lovelies at Balboa Bay Resort we get to work with, we love it there.

And as so many of our couples do, we did the In N out Run towards the end of the night which was a hit as usual.

Till next time

Pelican Hill Resort Wedding-all outdoors

Been looking forward to doing this post for 2 reasons….

  1. It means thanks to Coronavirus /shelter in place, i have been able to spend the past month getting my blogs caught up and this post means i have managed to get all of 2017 and 2018 done and there are a couple of 2019 that made it in before this post, but i can officially say, i am now done with being really behind, whew, next post will be 2019, which means i am still behind but not as bad as i was and without shelter at home I would have never been able to get caught up
  2. I end my 2018 posts with this lovely Pelican Hill wedding that was our first where everything was done outdoors, we never used the ballroom at all, so excited to show you.

The B&G came in from AZ and the guests came from AZ too and all around the world to celebrate this couple  Again, being flexible gets you the location of your dream.  As it was a Monday night they got a reduced F&B minimum which worked as they were only 80 guests, and we pulled a great vendor team together that we may not have been able to get if we were a Sat, Sun or Fri.

I pulled everything together with the bride and then as i was going to be out of the country on the day itself, lovely Nicole one of my Day of Co-ordinators took over and did  an wesome job as always!!

.

Thanks to Katina Photography for the pics, she was just lovely to work with and loved this wedding, she keeps posting it on Instagram!!  Dan/Plug Video, Jeff Holmes/Officiant, Design Visage, Lighting/chiavaris TMMPRO, a bar front that you don’t get to see/Chiavari Rentals, and beautiful florals from EBD Floral, and of course to our friends/team at Pelican Hill Resort, as always exceptional to work with, xoxox

Till next time

Fashion Island Hotel wedding

This was another lovely wedding where the mother of the groom initiated our working together and got things going, she was just lovely and the couple were very comfortable with any input she had along the way.  At the end of the event when she was leaving the ballroom after everyone had gone we had a great chat and she said that she knew from the beginning I was going to make it all work out/allow them to enjoy the celebration. xo

Floral Design By Luis was someone they knew and he did a lovely job, Design Visage-hair&makeup, Jordan Music provided all the music/in 2019 we worked with them quite  few times/more than usual, Luxe Linens for linens/napkins in the ballroom, TMMPRO for my fave round dancefloor, Viralbooth OC for the surprise Photobooth in the foyer after dinner for the guests, Mood Photo for the pics above, and our partners at Fashion island Hotel for always being wonderful to work with, we love being there xoxox

Fashion Island Hotel Cabana Room

Elizabeth and David were lovely and it was a pleasure to help them plan their wedding.

Ceremony was on the Cabana patio, we then had the guests go to the side patio for cocktails, as we turned the patio area into tall tables for after dinner, but the dinner/dancing was inside Cabana Room, you can do about 80 in there comfortably with a dancefloor and sweetheart table etc.  Once the guests were inside we kept the window doors behind the sweetheart table open, it was a nice backdrop for any photos of B&G but also let the guests know they could be in or out, whatever they preferred.

Photos by me, been waiting and waiting for them from the photographer but no luck, grrrr.  Paul Uhlar did a lovely ceremony, Design Visage did hair/makeup, EBD Floral another fabulous job, Jim Vita/guitar for ceremony&cocktails, DJ Mister Bill for djiing (he is no longer djing which is all our loss, and TMMPRO for the dancefloor & chiavaris.

Thanks to Fashion Island Hotel for being such great teammates xoxoxo

Balboa Bay Resort Wedding Reception

Marina and John booked us for a month of service, so they had all vendors in place when the service was about to begin.  With the smaller services you do get a preferred vendor list from me as well as the ability to email/call anytime for advise/direction and referrals.  So things had gone well, i detailed them a bit early because it was a February wedding and with the holidays and I had friends from NZ here in January, so timeline and me confirming with vendors was all good.  However, with the smaller services i reach out to the florist re timing once i have seen a final order from the B&G they are good with, i had said to them to get me a copy of the order so i could look it over and give them thoughts if i thought something was not right/items missing etc and i would then confirm timing with the florist.  We were in good shape.  I am in Cabo about 2 weeks before the wedding and i get a panic voicemail from Marina to call her asap, i could tell something was not right…… well their florist decided they no longer wanted to do their wedding, gave a reason that seemed a bit suspicious (remember people, everyone can see your Instagram and what you are doing and where) and they were refunding the monies paid so far.  So that made it pretty final, right!  While i was talking to Marina and calming her down as i knew we could find a florist, but not for the pricing she was paying, that i knew, so always be wary if someone is giving you same as others but for a much lesser price, something is not right, I was texting/emailing EBD Floral/Karla to see if they were available and could she help.  Well this is why planners have their core vendors, all different for different reasons, so you see them intercrossing for different weddings, thank goodness she could help and within 48 hours Marina & John had met with her, she was booked (yes it cost them more, but what it should have cost in the beginning!!) and of course pulled everything off without a hitch, wish they would have gone with someone off my list from the get go, none of us needed that and i had to not drink for a good 36 hours in Cabo as i had to keep my wits about me for the calls/emails that were going back and forth to solve this, and to keep Marina calm.

So anyway, I digress but these things can happen, and i was worth my wait in gold to these 2, if they had not had a planner there last 2 weeks leading up to the wedding would have been horrific i am sure.  With their service they had included my being at the hotel early to keep the girls on track with hair/makeup/dressing and getting to the church on time and had one of my assistants at the church (it is an Egyptian church and there is no church lady, we have done many weddings here so know how it works/what to do to get everyone up the aisle and keep photos moving after the ceremony ) to keep me in the loop as to when they were arriving back at resort/what was happening at the church, so i could keep things on track from that end, not be blind.  Cocktails were in the foyer and the outside patio area which is lovely, then into the ballroom we went where the lighting/music/mceeing & Photobooth were done by Invisible Touch.  TMMPRO did the dancefloor and service wall draping.  Dolled up by Lulu did hair/makeup, Jim Kennedy was our photographer/always love working with him or his ladies, quick and fun.

After dinner we had a setup in the ballroom for the guests from the Boba Tea Truck, i have to tell you, this was a hit.  I may have sampled 2 of the 3 options, just to be sure they were quality enough for this wedding, lol.  it’s always fun seeing past couples/families at my Egyptian weddings, it is a very tight community and we are very lucky they have embraced us.  And to the BBR team, thanks as always, we just love being there for sure

Pelican Hill Wedding Reception

Ryna and Mike were already married when they came to me, but wanted to have a wedding reception.  When we sat down to do the budget and for me to get a good feel for their style/vision etc, Ryna told me her dream was to have her celebration at Pelican Hill.  Well this is where my contacts at all the major hotels in the OC are always to your benefit and your flexibility can be paired beautifully, and so it was for my lovely Ryna.

This was a January wedding so we lost light early, so we added bistro lights at the patio where cocktails were, thanks to TMMPRO along with them doing the ballroom draping/hanging cake structure/chiavaris/my fave round dancefloor+decal. oxox

Design Visage did hair/makeup at the Resort because Ryna still got to use the bridal suite under the ballroom and they got to have lovely photos taken around the resort before cocktails began.  Flowers by Cina did the flowers and a fine job as always.  Her photographer was lovely a husband and wife team, their pics are the bottom better ones, lol, she was great about getting them to me, unfortunately we were not as good on our end to download them before they expired and after her doing it for me 2 times i felt bad asking her the 3rd time and did not hear back, oops.  So Ryna got me these pics, but again she was a lovely lady/photographer, and the pics were awesome.  Of course the team at Pelican are fabulous and they say they like me the best there, hmmmm, so let’s do more celebrations there, i want to help you future couples xoxoxox

Fashion Island Hotel NYE wedding

It seems every 3 years i get a NYE wedding, and i don’t mind at all.  You see people not just celebrating a wedding but really celebrating, lol.

So the weather held out for us and it wasn’t that cold so we kept the ceremony outdoors, that blur you see is a chandelier that EBD Floral did as well as all the florals, unfortunately their photographer was a guest and from England and he promised to get me pics but never did, so i am finally posting this with my iPhone pics, so sorry.

Inside the ballroom where the dinner/dance was held, the lighting, dancefloor, draping along the service wall & chargers were done by my TMMPRO team, yay as always.  The dessert table was done by Simply Sweet Cakery, and the band was a cover band of the Dave Matthews Band, the bride LOVES and i mean LOVES Dave Matthews Band, don’t think its Dave Matthews more than the band, but who knows, lol, she has been to a few hundred concerts/somewhat follows them around.  So after dinner when the dancing got going Tracey was on that dancefloor singing/knew the words to every single song.  I loved watching the groom sitting at their table just enjoying watching her have fun.  We saw the NY in in style with balloons and a group photos of everyone on the dancefloor who made it till then, these people partied!!!

Now what Tracey never knew through our planning months was that one of my husband and my good friend is best friends with Dave Matthews Tour Manager and we have been backstage and to a concert which was fab, so i reached out to the tour manager to see if on the wedding day i could have Dave call my cell and i could have him personally wish her a happy wedding day, alas they were on xmas break and Dave was not to be bothered/family time etc, geez, lol, so instead i gave them the brides address and when she got home from honeymoon there was a package from Dave Matthews to her where he had signed a bunch of stuff for her.  She was thrilled and surprised.

Till next time

Fashion Island Hotel Wedding Reception

Worked with the loveliest mother of bride and a bride with a lot of style who also plans events, so we had some lovely elements incorporated.  Church Ceremony, cocktails were held at the Cabana Room Patio, then guests were escorted to the ballroom foyer where they found their placecard on this fab placecard table, then into the ballroom they went….

We draped the service wall which really helps transform the ballroom as its not centered to the foyer doors which puts the service doors behind a little off, draping/lighting/dancefloor+decal by my pals at TMMPRO, headtable by Chiavari Chair Rentals (who obviously do a lot more than chairs, lol), the nice thing about Fashion Island Hotel is that the gold chiavaris come with it if gold is your accent.  Any the pastry chef at the hotel does amazing cakes, so even if not looking to feed everyone having a smaller one where you get to take it for the next day brunch or to enjoy when you have time is a great idea.

Florals by EBD who always make my couples so happy, Linens/napkins by La Tavola, and Laura Jane Studio was our live artist painting the ballroom scene, she was by the entrance doors so got lots of attention, have used her a few times since this wedding.  All music handled by Jeff/Moondance Mobile Music, fab to work with as always, calm/reads the crowd well, it’s not about him being the star!  And to our friends at Fashion Island Hotel, we love being there and look forward to many many more  xoxox

Hyatt Newport Beach Outdoor Wedding

Caitlyn and Albert were fun, we had an awesome tasting and Grandma came along!!

Everything was outdoors, the ceremony at the ampitheatre, cocktails infront of the main lobby with the firepits/seating areas, dining under the trees/stars and then inside 2/3 of the Garden room for dancing and photobooth until late.

thanks to Victoria Johanson photographer for the pics above, Shane Productions/video, Design Visage for hair/makeup, Karen’s Flowers, Paul Uhlar for his always lovely ceremony, Simply Sweet Cakery for the cake-which we had in the party room/always a good way to get everyone to a different area, Naples Strings for ceremony/cocktail music and Jeff/Moondance Mobile Music for the mceeing/dinner music and dancing music in the party room.  To TMMPRO who do about 98% of my weddings, for the chargers/chiavaris and the excellent lighting you see in the trees around the dining area.  And to the team/ladies at Hyatt NB, always lovely to be there.  xoxox
