St Regis Monarch Beach wedding

Noelle was probably the most efficient bride I have ever had. She was on top of things before she needed to be and when I gave her tasks they were done in minutes. Great couple and a really intimate group that came to celebrate with them. They went over and above with the food/beverage selections, lucky guests, in fact so much so, the St Regis Executive Chef came down to Club 19 to handle/oversee the dish up himself!!!

We pulled together the perfect vendor team for their celebration, thanks to http://www.jamesjohnsonphotography.com for the pics below (love working with James, he does a lot of movie/LA peeps weddings, so always love it when I can pull him down to the OC), Keith Laverty for the floral design, Fusion for the furniture/linens/chaircovers (yes another bride for me this year that loved the material look as opposed to the chivari), Peter/Vive Ent for the mceeing and dancing/party music, lovely Linda Trott for her always wonderful way she does a ceremony, and the last vendor we had was a flamenco guitarist (like me they love everything spanish and had their honeymoon in Barcelona, where I had been back to only a few months earlier) who played pre ceremony, flamenco for the ceremony songs, cocktail time and most of dinner, I loved it. Giving their celebration such a relaxing, special feel. The relaxing I know was their main goal, and it was achieved.

As always, thanks to Kelly and the team at St Regis, they are such a pleasure to work alongside, we all have the same goals, an event the B&G will treasure forever and the guests will remember.

Plaza Room U Shape setup

I was looking forward to seeing this wedding come to fruition.  Juliana is English/Australian, and I knew there were going to be a bunch of Australian’s there, and even though I am a New Zealander, it warms my heart to be in a room with accents that makes me feel like I am at home, plus Julianna is just an elegant, lovely person and her taste is elegant and the feeling she wanted to create was soft/warm/elegant and we achieved that.

She wanted everyone who had travelled from all around the world and USA to feel as important as everyone else (she was also my second bride in a row to add up all the miles people had come, I thought I was having deja vu for a minute), so we did a U-shape in Plaza/double sided.  I have done this a few times, but not so recently, so good to do it again.  We had to make room for my  fave band so the U was slightly off center, but that gave us room to place, yes another non-wedding cake wedding (seems to be the trend this year), a dessert station!!

The ceremony was beautiful, her vows were so sincere and beautiful, and poor Lonnie he started his by saying he now regretted being a gentleman and letting her go first, that gave everyone a giggle.  The room was lovely and warm, and the right people were in it.  From  the time Adam and the Full Spectrum band started their first dancing song (yes we put a 7 piece band in here, again the upside of using a co-ordinator who works with vendors that makes things happen, Adam has done this for me before, they only have a postage stage space and are on the floor, and he makes it work) until the last song, 80% of the crowd was on the dancefloor the whole time, thank goodness for the U shape, it gave them more dancing room than the normal setup, they were on the carpet/dancefloor and even on the balcony.  Love that band and loved how much this bride and groom LOVED their wedding celebration.

Juliana and I put this wedding together with me here and her in Chicago, no trips out here.   She trusted me with the vendor selection, basing it on her style/budget and vision.  As they were leaving they both thanked me again (they were such a thankful couple the whole way thru the event and to each of the vendors) and she touched my heart by saying she would miss our communicating and that I was a really special person.  That ladies and gentlemen is what has me smiling all the way home and sleeping well.  Aaaah.

Thanks to the fab James Johnson from Venice Beach for these pics, he is one of the few that loves film but does both, but really has the artist in him still and is soooo passionate when shooting.  Full Spectrum Band, Adam, every wedding it only reinforces to me why I love you and the band so much, you kick butt.  James Vita who did the great ceremony and cocktail guitaring (such a word??) I love James he comes/does his thing (and does it well) and off he goes, such a european feel hearing the different styles of music he switches to/from during cocktail time. And of course the lovely Pam Wolter at the RC and the banquet team I call family, we all work hand in hand to ensure the best experience for all in attendance, and it shows.

Aaaah, another wonderful celebration I am so happy and proud to have been a part of.  All my hugs to Juliana and Lonnie for a long happy future together.

Till next time

Awesome St Regis celebration

Just had two days of an awesome celebration for a couple I have really enjoyed and know will share many champagnes with in the future.  Ceremony and upscale barbeque on Friday, then the shi shi cocktail party followed by dinner/dancing event on Saturday night.  Fab u lous, is the only way to describe the couple and the events.

We started out where they really didn’t know what they wanted, allowed me a lot of creative freedom to come up with thoughts/ideas, and being very busy professionals and living in Texas and only having two trips out here during the planning months, went along on the ride with me.  So I was full of excitement and anticipation both days, knowing I could see how everything was going to turn out, and being beside myself waiting for the moment for them to see the end result.  Tears, hugs, happiness.  I was sooooo happy for them and their response to both days.  Great group of family and friends I got to know over the two days and they were there to celebrate.  Intimate group of 65, but that dancefloor never had less than 60 on it, and they danced for 3 hours non stop!!!

Thanks to the great team that had the product and expertise to make me look fab, and the couple so happy, Square Root/David you went over and above, tx.  Fusion for the dancefloor/furniture and other elements I needed.  Classic for the chameleon chairs, leather or suede, well suede of course, and they were fab.  E motion picture studio, thanks to Kimberly and Marc for both nights.  Julius our dj (who I worked with earlier in the year) and was the only component on board before me (small small world this biz is), then we confirmed the hotel and started with the rest of the vendors.  Along the way I tried to come up with unique/different elements to incorporate.

The details: now, I have to admit I ‘borrowed’ the thought from another florist I love, but it was the first time Square Root and the hotel had done it and they were both a bit sceptical, but as you can see below, the ‘suspended cake’ was wonderful and definately caught everyone’s attention and was a center focal point of the dining area. We did mirror tops on the rectangle tables, and by positioning the furniture the way I did, we made 2 sofa/chair sets, look like a lot more.  The couples sweetheart table was a water filled box with orchids floating in it.  We framed the center tables with the icon Square Root look on the outer tables.  We used the drapes in Club 19 to reveal each area at the right time to reveal, ie, when the guests came into Club 19 for the grand entrance and a few dance songs they only saw that setup as we opened the drapes on their way in, after the few dances we swung open the drapes to the dining patio with the couple leading the guests in, and a lot of gasps and oohs/aahs photos were being taken as they went in and found their seats, with all the candles it looked spectacular.

As everyone knows, I am too busy at a wedding to take pics, so James Johnson thanks for these great pics and for as always being the great sport, creative soul, and the just nice guy you are.

Of course, can’t forget, Kelly and her bosses at the St Regis for helping us make these events happen.  The guests were telling me how fabulous the service had been all weekend and the staff in all depts/areas at the hotel (all the guests were staying in house).  Jose, Blass, and the banquet staff, thanks as always, we are a team and the guests feel it, and appreciate the respect we all have for each other.

Now out to the pool and a champagne with a big smile on my face

Till next time

Many looks to the Plaza Room, 2011

Well, this spot at the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel/Dana Point is still hard to beat if you are looking for ocean/5 stars/intimacy – here are just some of the many looks my lovely brides chose for this wonderful location:

Thanks www.tonyflorez.com for the photo above, florals were by the fabulous Square Root, both vendors always fab to work with & have on the team.

T

The above pics were courtesy of the dj/Steve Shanahan using his Iphone. I can’t say I have ever seen a photographer do a pano of this room like this, so dark, but love it.  The brides inspiration for this look was a photo on my office wall from a previous wedding, she loved the airy feel of the tall calla lillies.  We used the hotels black linens and brought in black chivaris which looked so elegant and then gave a pop by doing the fabulous black & white pattern napkin, lots of candles together with the fireplace being on, voila, a fabulous look.  Then look below, same room but earlier in the day, so you can really see the detail, these photos courtesy of my lovely bride, and guess what, she never got any photos by her photographer inside the room with the fireplace on/that atmosphere before people came in, so I was able to forward her over the djs pics so she had those to enjoy/remember how fab it looked.

What a soft fresh feel/look, the photo above, courtesy of www.jamesjohnsonphotography.com, was a daytime wedding, and when you walked in it just looked pretty, soft, fresh, and made you smile.  Exactly a reflection of how this bride was and how she made everyone feel around her.

For the above wedding (pic courtesy of wonderful www.tonyflorez.com) the bride went with a really nice rich red linen with black runners and napkins, some tall centerpieces and some low.  Very dramatic when you walked in.  A great reflection of them, comfortable and warm.  We used a red uplight in each corner, when you have a strong color in the room you can do that to add a pop/further enhance, but in a smaller room you want to be careful it’s not too much.  We use amber a lot to continue the warmth/feel from the fireplace and candles, otherwise the bride’s ‘color’ if she wants that to be enforced.  During dinner just outside the room in the foyer, we setup the EPOD photo booth (it talks to the guests and it’s words match the guests, when they are sober it’s nice and normal, the more tipsy they get and funny/amorous, the more the words comment on what they are doing, it’s hilarious.

My bride for the above wedding wanted her color/theme to be Tiffany Blue  but she was a lovely elegant woman and I knew we had to watch how much we used the color and where.  It’s a hard color for flowers so we stuck with champagnes/ivory/blushes which is a very romantic palette,  Instead of chivaris we covered the hotels chairs which gave a rich/romantic feel along with crystals and candles.  It was a warm/loving feel in the Plaza which was a total reflection of the couple and not only how they felt about each other, but also the intimate group that had been invited/had come from afar to celebrate with them.  Thanks to www.franksalas.com for the pics and always being just a pleasure to work with, we love him, plus of course, Nisies Enchanted Florist for the beautiful signature look of her florals/style (I knew from the moment my bride and I started talking and working on budget, we must have Nisie). Cere/cocktail music by my fave string group Naples, and dinner/dancing by fab Jeff Holmes/Moondance.  Hair/makeup by Design Visage, and a dove release by wonderful Pam with White Flite, always a successful timely release that has everyone wowed.  For the favors we went to Luisa Chocolatiere based in Laguna Hills, she got the boxes from Italy and inside had made 2 swans (the brides favorite icon for the wedding, because swans mate for life!!), one was dark chocolate with raspberry filling-the brides fave, and for the groom – got to  love it – milk chocolate with tequila inside and sea salt on the outside, yum. I had to do the final taste test due to B&G being in Texas, and it was a chore, but I okayed the end result!!! LOL. Inside the box was a note saying whose chocolate was whose fave and the description.  Nicely done as always Luisa.

My couple from above came with all their guests from Sacramento to celebrate.  A nice change to see a bold color in this room this year.  Thanks to Katie Clark for the above pics, and always being fun to work with. Alicia booked me for Month of service, but used my preferred vendor list in her planning and my advise during her planning months (two) and ended up with a great team and didn’t spend a fortune, but made it look/feel like she did.

The above wedding (thanks for the pics Nancy/bride) was so soft and pretty, no wonder it was published on Style me Pretty.  The end result was well worth the pain we went through to get the florals right on the day.  6 tables, 3 different style of centerpieces and the ceremony was angled giving a straight aisle, rather than the flat to the ocean positioning most couples choose for this site.  All these tweaks made this wedding theirs.  The wonderful Peter Papadopolous/Vive Ent, was our dj and mcee and as always a pleasure.

These weren’t all the weddings we did in the Plaza, but gives you a good feel for how that room works no matter what your colors/feel/theme, as this is a nice variation of looks/styles/florals/colors for you to see.

Aliso Creek Inn Wedding

Another lovely wedding that came from a referral from  a 2010 bride.  This years bride was last years bride’s cousin, I love keeping it in the family.

This is a location I had looked at with another bride for her wedding but we chose to go elsewhere, so I was very pleased to get booked for Negar’s wedding where she had booked Aliso Creek Inn already.

The backdrop is quite wonderful, you are in a canyon and can’t believe how quiet and beautiful it is (we even saw deer on the golf green beyond), even with PCH only a 1 minute drive down the driveway.  You can get married outside, cocktail and dine and dance outside and when 10pm rolls around, move the rest of the dancing inside to a rustic bar type venue they have.

I was already booked for another wedding when I was contacted, so they had Teri orchestrate the actual day, and as always she did a fabulous job.

Enjoy these pictures courtesy of the fabulous James Johnson (www.jamesjohnsonphotography.com), we love to work with Jim.  He used to only do film as he really is into the art format of the end result, but has now come around to offering digital to the couples that love his style and personality, but just don’t want film, so now we all win.  Such a nice nice guy.  We also had the fabulous Naples Chamber Ensemble lead by the fun Elaine, and the cocktail and dinner/dancing (2 locations) music was all done by the fab Jeff Holmes/Moondance Mobile Music.  We love working with Jeff, maturity and elegance is what he brings to the event, it is not about him.   Teri and Jeff seem to get to work together a lot, I am jealous!!

If you are looking for this serene backdrop, no ocean, there are plenty of locations here in the OC.  Let me help you find the right place for you, then pull together you team and vision, all with ease.

Till next time
