Older couple elegant wedding celebration

This wedding was wonderful.  An older couple who had found each other and wanted to celebrate with their family and friends, and this was one celebration where you could feel the love and genuine want for them to be happy/enjoy life together.  It was a January wedding and the ceremony was planned for indoors from the beginning, so there was never a worry about the wedding or it being too dark/cold outside.

Thanks to Karla at Elegant by Design for really listening and making the bride so happy, she was not really wanting many florals, so the perfect mix was created giving a very elegant/romantic feel, along with the full room draping we did and the round glossy/seamless dancefloor which was more full than I normally see, now whether that is because this group loves to dance, or the fact that my fave band, Full Spectrum with Adam Jackson, was playing, hmmmm not sure but could have been both!!  Thanks to the team at Island Hotel for being so wonderful to work with, this year we look like we are going to be there once a month. xoxoxox

Our last wedding of 2016

463p0143 463p0151

Well, this was a special one, for many reasons and a wonderful way to end a great 2016. Our young bride is a cancer survivor and working with her and her mom over the past year was a pleasure.  Nicole was in charge the day of with Teri helping as well, so Cindi was in great hands with my ladies while I was living large in Sydney with old friends, thanks ladies.

From the get go we planned on the ceremony being indoors (it was the end of December), and the venue chosen was the Hotel Irvine which happens to have a lovely tent out the back (with a great ceremony lawn if you did want to do the ceremony outdoors) and a great courtyard for cocktails.  So above you see the portion of the tent we did the ceremony in

463p0353 463p0385

Displays that do get noticed…… we love a pretty placecard table and this pic doesn’t really do it justice, oh well.  The candy display was in the wedding colors and had special candies the bride and groom both liked and some from South Africa where the bride and a good portion of the guests came from, Kim who does these beautiful displays was my fave vendor find towards the end of 2016

463p0434 463p0440

And now the dining/dancing portion of the tent

Such a pretty color palette along with bling and candles.  We pulled together a wonderful vendor team to make Cindi’s dreams come true.  Thanks to Frank Salas/photo for the pics and always being wonderful to work with from our perspective and to our couples and their friends and family, Parallel Media for being unobtrusive videographers – we so appreciate that, to EBD floral/Karla as always you make my couples so happy when they finally see the dream vision become a reality, to La Tavola for the bling linens so thick and scrumptious, to my fave band always, Full Spectrum/Adam Jackson, thanks for being awesome we love you and the band and by the end of the night so do all the couples and guests, and to Flawless Faces for beautifying all the lovely ladies. Finally to Ebi and the team at the Hotel Irvine, thank you for being so great to work with.  We look forward to working with you many many times in the future.

So while the wedding was being setup and during I was getting pics texted to me by frank so I could see how well things were coming along, and he sent me the one above with our bride and groom on the ‘ice rink’, love it.

A great wedding was had by all involved and there to experience.  This wedding reminds us of why we love what we do.

Ritz-Carlton Laguna/Pavilion Ballroom

img_0712

A very busy bride and a lovely mom and I had a great journey which ended up with a really fabulous celebration.  Tiffany had an inspiration picture with the floral runner/candles inset which she loved, so of course we always knew we would have rectangle tables to be able to use that design on.  Along the way we created the perfect vendor team for them and the vision went from one picture to many other elements that created her custom wedding.

img_0715 img_0718

Of course the seamless dancefloor and decal were from my new fave vendor of 2015 TMMPRO, along with the boxed florals infront of the stage which became a big had to have in 2015, doesn’t it all look fabulous!!  The luge for the signature drink was by fabulous Mark of Icebulb.

img_0720 img_0740

The use of benches on the balcony gives a lot more seating if wanting to add a furniture area along with the regular tall and low cocktail tables, and Tiffany wanted a firepit from tthe beginning so of course there it was on the night

munyon_0913 munyon_0920

Pre cocktail pic of the view from the balcony and why so many local and destination wedding couples choose this hotel and space to celebrate at.  Don’t you love the placecard table display, so fluffy, thanks to the hydrangea table top cover.

Carrying on the hydrangea runner look/feel to the headtable and these pics showcase the beautiful Luxe Linen that was usd on the headtable and the rectangle tables in the room

3 different Luxe Linens were used throughout the room, lots of texture/looks, love it.

Great vendor team on board for this wedding.  Frank Salas/photographer-thanks as always for being such a great team player, Elegant by Design for bringing our beginning design thoughts through to reality as always, Lake Forest limousines for the Packard and limos used to get everyone from the hotel to the church to the hotel, and of course, to our fabulous team/family at the Ritz-Carlton-we love you soooooo much!!!!  And to the best band ever – well that is what all my couples say during and after their weddings, Full Spectrum Music/Adam Jackson, mom and bride took forever to book them even though I kept saying I would not steer you wrong, on the night mom comes over to me and says, Lisa this band is sooo good, guests keep coming up and telling me the best wedding band they have ever heard, why don’t everyone just book them immediately!!  I said to her, tell me about it, lol

Monarch Beach Resort fab wedding

0716 0719

Ahhhhhhh, from the moment dad and bride came to meet with me I knew this was going to be a wonderful experience, I was so right.  We had their ceremony at a church in Laguna and then cocktails at the Sunset Terrace followed by dinner/dancing in the Monarch Ballroom at the Monarch Beach Resort/formerly the St Regis Monarch Beach

0722 0732

Whitney knew from moment one she wanted Nisie’s Enchanted Florist to be her gal, and of course everything was perfection.  Signature drink luge by Carving Ice, both their last names started with an M, so an M luge seemed perfect.

0734 0741

Glossy/seamless dancefloor with custom decal and acrylic chiavaris by TMMPRO as always

0762 1036

Seating chart display, and the beautiful/elegant candy table that had South African candies in honor of our groom and the contingent that came from South Africa.

Thanks to Larry Crandall for the beautiful photos above, Epod photobooth for always coming and doing your thing seamlessly, Dan/Plug Video, Design Visage for beautifying everyone as always-they all held up until the end of the event/so important, the band that keeps the dancefloor full and created some special moments by playing/singing some South African songs/Full Spectrum, love you guys!!! Luxe Linens for napkins/linens, and last but not least, my family/team at the Monarch Beach Resort, its been 15 years of pure joy working with you all   xoxoxoxo

Pelican Hill lovely

0025

So wonderful Ali had been in touch from the other side of the USA, New Jersey, and she wanted an OC wedding (I would say 70% of my brides are from out of state and a big group of those are from NY/east coast), in fact had seen Pelican Hill and wondered.  So we went to contract without a location, we had a budget and that meant having to make some compromises to make it work if she wanted the location of her dreams.  She was a bit hesitant so we ended up with estimates from a bunch of great LA hotels also, any of which I would have loved to see her wedding at.  This is where a couple’s flexibility and the relationships your wedding planner has with hotel peeps can come together and miracles happen, groom and I have a big chat (I was actually in New Zealand at the time) and we were able to secure Pelican for them, yahooooo

0042

Speaking of the groom, and this happens sometimes, they get really into how the cake looks or the flavors, he came up with the design for each tier, I came up with the cake floating on a bed of lush florals, and voila we had a focal point for the round room area.

0436

Mother nature played a trick on us for this September wedding, there was no sign of the Pacific Ocean for all these folks who had flown in from the east coast, thank goodness they were all in the area for a few days so they did know it was there at some point!! But some of the pics with the sea haze/fog in the background were quite beautiful

0573

I promise you there is an ocean out there, well at least for cocktails the ceremony area was their view/backdrop.

0582 0602

We came up with elements that a lot of their guests would not have seen, two different centerpieces, one very candely and the other lush/pretty, and of course who doesn’t love a floral chandelier.  The pic above does not do this any justice, you had to be below looking up to realize how many flowers were in there and how beautiful it was. And if you look closely enough you will see the white grand piano left hand front of the ceremony area for the pianist to use, totally completed the whole ceremony look.

0643 0872

We draped the room, not because you have to but we wanted to and it does always transform a space and even for a large event can give the illusion of intimate.  We do this a lot for my couples not from the OC and for some from the OC, the In N out run at the end of the night for food to go/take as you are leaving, always a hit.

0875 img_9936

Of course my fave, the 100 Dove release after the intro of B&G to all at the ceremony, something guests always talk about.  And I love it when we have enough lawn to really go big on the aisle petal scroll, out the back.  Above the view looking towards the rotunda and below the view from rotunda looking down the aisle back towards cocktail/ballroom area.

img_9940 img_9945 img_9951 img_9960 img_9961

Its all in the details, that’s how people know you care and took time, the ceremony was live streamed for those guests not able to attend.  We did my fave white glossy/seamless.decaled dancefloor, we actually used the hotel linens in the ballroom because they fit perfectly with our look, but we did rent La Tavola linens for the cocktail tables using an inspiration picture Ali had from the beginning, and she is not the first bride to use that particular picture with me, lol!!

img_9966  img_9969 img_9975

Love this aerial view of the ceremony site from the drone and it really shows how there was no ocean to be seen!!! Crazy.

0019

I don’t normally post people pics, but I thought this picture was so soft and really showed what Ali is about, family and love.  This is where having everyone wear the palette of the wedding totally worked and it made me stop and notice.  And, that fog in the background added to the whole effect, yes I know how to make lemonade out of lemons, for sure.

We pulled together a great vendor team for this one, thanks to Joe Latter for the pics above, Marc/The Emotion Picture Studio for video/drone/live streaming and for over 20 years we have done beautiful weddings together, Design Visage for beautifying the ladies, White Flite for the Dove release/perfectly timed as always, Flowers by Cina for orchestrating the vision we had on paper into reality, Chiavari chair rentals for the rotunda and ballroom draping-gotta love a chandelier in the rotunda.  To TMMPRO for our chivaris/round dancefloor&decal and lighting, and to my fave band for many years who adjusted their line up to suit the broad range of music Ali wanted to be able to share with her guests, so easy to work with and they handled ceremony, cocktail and dancing music with ease, Full Spectrum, thank you Adam for being such a great partner and wonderful asset to any wedding celebration/memory for guests.  Then we have the Pelican Hill Team, from Pam to Clancy to the wonderful team actually interacting with the guests on the day, classy and elegant as always.

Till next time

Pavilion Ballroom – Ritz-Carlton Dana Point

So this event was actually a couple of years ago, but everything about it was unusual and I have never forgotton i, so thought I would share.

I had had a call from the bff of a very busy bride, we had a great chat, she spoke to the bride, and I was on board.  It was the three of us that pulled a really fabulous looking and fun celebration off for a group of 80ish that all came in from Texas.  The two of them worked side by side/hand in hand  with the tasks to be done along the way, invites etc, and then when they came in for the tasting (yes no groom, just us) we pulled the vision together with furniture/linens/chairs and of course the florals.

I don’t have pics of this celebration, but wanted to post about it because it was a really unusual setup in the Pavilion Ballroom and worked well and looked awesome.

Our bride wanted it to be a party (it was a 2nd marriage for both), so we had a relaxed ceremony on the Gazebo Lawn with that beautiful Pacific Ocean backdrop that I know impressed those Texans!!  Cocktails were held on the balcony with a mix of furniture and cocktail tables and that full on Pacific Ocean backdrop again.  In the ballroom/which is one side 5 sets of french doors looking out to that ocean again,  there was no assigned seating, but we had enough seats for everyone (very important, ladies must have a place to put their things down at and feel this is their home for the night), we did a variety of tables/size/height in the ballroom. We had a furniture setup in the middle of each table setup/ie each end of the room.  We mixed things up, the guests may not have noticed but we enjoyed doing it, we used the same color chivaris in all three areas, ceremony/cocktails and dining room, but put different color cushions on them to match the different mood or linens we were using in that area.

A really great celebration, as I looked at it on the night I realised I would probably do this myself!  That may have been part of why I enjoyed pulling the vision together with them, and couldn’t wait to see it come to life on the night.  A fabulous floral display from Square Root/loved the cake table, we were all excited to see how that came out on the night.   The girls loved Design Visage for hair/makeup so much they used them for pre events too.  Enchanted Evening Strings played elegantly as always for ceremony and then cocktails, my fave band kept the dancefloor full inside – Full Spectrum, just love them and the energy they produce.  Monico Décor did all the rentals and of course we had a gorgeous white dancefloor center.  They were very considerate of those travelling with small kids (as they were) so we had a company come in and setup a daycare in a banquet room and then it turned from fun to sleep for the kids in there, so the parents were really able to enjoy enjoy enjoy.  Of course the team at the Ritz as always helped us bring everything to a five star reality, xoxoxo

Pavilion Ballroom/wedding – Ritz Carlton Dana Point

I have found over the years that the key photographers in the OC each have an icon shot that they do at each wedding using an area at the different hotels, with Frank Salas the marble floor at the base of the Ritz-Carlton grand staircase (Dana Point) is his.  The original shot always looks great to me, then he does his magic and you end up with a very dramatic feeling new version of it as above.

Thanks to www.franksalas.com for the photos of the wedding you are going to see below.  We love recommending and working with Frank, nice, calm, unobtrusive and always in the right place at the right time, no ego or demands to deal with for our couple or us.

Loved my bride and groom for the wedding below, our groom was Italian (2011 was quite international, I had a few Italian and other European brides or grooms as well as some from downunder), and Nicole was just a beautiful, calm, decisive bride.  The vision for the ceremony was perfect and different than I had seen done out there before (think that Italian influence showed here) and for the first time in the 11 years that I have been doing weddings in the Pavilion Room, she wanted it draped.  As you can see from previous blog entries (think there are 3-4 other Pavilion ones with pics, since I started blogging so make sure you find them to see also, and I have another one coming showing a few more from 2011 just waiting on 2 photographers to get me the pics, hint hint) this is not something you need to do in this room, but it was nice to see how it turned out and it did give a different feel, however in saying that you have to be careful, a lighting guy is always going to suggest more than less uplighting, but it causes light, I go the other way, less to give the feeling, not become the feeling unless it is a huge room and it doesn’t affect the actual dancefloor area, so as I do and did with this wedding too, we kept the lighting for the nice effect when the guests came in and during dinner, but when dancing started I pulled what lights I could around the dancefloor to allow that darkish feel on the dancefloor that everyone likes.

Florals were by Square Root, their signature look/feel, video was by Elysium (the best of the best), we did the 100 dove release at the end of the ceremonyand had my fave EPOD photo booth on the balcony, and for mceeing and dinner/dance get it going, Nicole and her dad listened to me and booked Full Spectrum Band/Adam Jackson, and what a party they had.  Add the food/service by the wonderful Ritz team and the view mother nature provided, this was a celebration to remember.

Another thing I was going to mention, and I had 3 brides use it this season and by the looks of things my brides for 2012 are liking the look too, the platinum silver linens, very striking and I think creates a sophisticated elegant feel.

Till next time

Club 19, St Regis – 2011

We love, love, this area at the St Regis.  An Italian style cere site, cocktails looking over the golf greens to the ocean beyond, outdoor dining and then create a club feeling inside the dancing/bar area.  Love it.  So many different vibes in this area to keep your guests guessing and admiring.  Here are some pics from just a few of the lovely celebrations we did in this area this year, these ones used unusual colors or did the layout or decor a little different, so I am sharing, the others were lovely too, but there’s only so many pics you want to see, right!!   I just realised that with the weddings shown below, all had booked me to assist them from the beginning (budget/vendor selection & keeping them on track with the tasks to be done along the way) through the day of the event.  You will notice each wedding has a different look/feel, which shows that I am  an advocate of  ‘it is your wedding, not mine’.  Your colors/style, I just help you achieve it, and thus my job is never boring and you are not having a ‘Lisa Simpson’ wedding, it is your wedding.

This wedding was a group of 80 that all flew in from Denver, including their photographer Travis (www.broxtonart.com), thanks for the pics Travis.  The father of the bride was very involved in the planning,  I miss you Fred!!  The bride and mom came in for one visit during the planning months and we had a lovely couple of days where hair/makeup preview was done,  the hotel tasting/detail meeting, linens/floral sample etc, so we were all set when they came into town for the actual wedding, they could just relax and enjoy the resort.  Apart from Travis (who was a pleasure to work with) dad and bride were very smart and allowed me to guide them to the right vendors where they got the best experience/quality and never went over budget – The A team on this one were, Ashley Video, my lovely Judge Monroe, Design Visage who keeps all my brides/girls/moms on time and looking good until the event ends, White Flite/Pamla-best dove release-I always suggest 100 for the best effect, Naples Chamber Ensembles for the cere & cocktails, Fusion for the linens/chairs/furniture, and my lovely Peter/Vive for the elegant mceeing/djing he provides-he doesn’t make it all about him.

The wedding below was an all white wedding, I just love white chivaris, they give such a complete look, and white/clean was what Kimmy was wanting.  Such a lovely couple to work with, I am so lucky. My Peni took this pic on her phone, so not the best but you get the jist.  We used Fusion again and Al from Alvarron Entertainment for his nice low key dj style.

The wedding below belongs to my lovely Stella.  Stella and her mum are best friends and mum was with us every step of the way but as support nly, she never once said what she preferred/thought.  Stella wanted yellow and green which was refreshing, such a happy feel (this color palette became quite popular through the season).  We did some cool white furniture on the lower patio which she brought pillows for.  Irmina photo took some great pics of Stella around the grounds as Stella was as daring as Irmina wanted her to be, I saw one pic where Stella was lying on a credenza by the elevator, very hip/cool shot!!  We had my fave/the best band out there, Full Spectrum that kept the party going all night long (well it felt like that and when it ended no-one was ready), linens/furniture/chivaris through Fusion Linens, Pamla the dove lady, Newport Bay Productions for video (Kamran is such a lovely man to work with), and Design Visage who kept everyone looking fab all event.

The wedding below was for a very busy bride who ended up being out of the country/travelling through most of the planning months, so our lovely groom and I became hitched at the hip.  He did a great job.  Euna had great taste and it was fun working with a new color for our base (platinum silver – which again became popular through the season) and with the florals there was that refreshing green again but this time with some white.  And for that outdoor event the white chivaris I love so much for that look/feel.  Another perfect team for this wedding – www.tonyflorez.com for photography (thanks for the pics Tony), we do a lot of weddings with Tony and love him to pieces, great style, so relaxed, captures all the moments with such ease and can get as artsy with the end result as you want.  Andrea Thiele for harp for cere/cocktails, Fusion for the linens/chivaris, and Al again for the relaxed/mellow style of mceeing/djing he offers, that again was perfect for this day time event.

Till next time
