Ritz Laguna – Pavilion Ballroom

Welcome to 2020 and Anna and Omar’s wedding was our first of the year on March 6 at the fabulous Ritz-Carlton Laguna.  They were just the sweetest loveliest couple, i am so lucky, I rarely get a bride or groom zilla and if I do it just makes us appreciate our normal couples even more, lol, but these two both during the event, the groom once and the bride probably 5 times, kept asking if they were being too much trouble, and i had to keep telling them they were absolutely NO trouble at all, not sure what they were worrying about but they were most definately not!!  We had the ceremony on The Bluff Lawn, cocktails on Pavilion Balcony and dinner/dancing in Pavilion.  Anna started with round guest tables but in the end decided she loved the rectangle table idea so we had some of those and some rounds, best of both worlds.

Thanks to Frank Salas for the pics, some are his and some mine (obviously the bad ones, lol), Impressive Creations/video, Elegant by Design for coming in and making it all work last minute for us (a florist the bride had found/wanted to use ended up flaking on her when it was time to get serious), TMMPRO for the dancefloor/chiavaris/B&G sofa+lighting, Design Visage for hair/makeup, Their friend Tarek who performed the ceremony and did a great job, and DJ Franky for all the music needs we had.

And of course to our friends at the Ritz.  Teamwork makes the dreamwork and we sure do together, for 19 years now xoxox

Till next time

Bye 2019, hi 2020 wedding – Ritz Laguna

It seems every 2 years or so I get a NY eve wedding and the years I want to be in NZ or elsewhere I don’t even get an inquiry, so works out aok from my end.  Andrew and Erika were a blast to work with, they asked for direction/got it and did their own thing and followed direction perfectly to where we had the best vendor team on to work their wedding and spend that evening with.  They were a joy and pleasure to work with and be a part of their wedding celebration, we all loved them and were honored.

TMMPRO for the dancefloor/custom gobo/balcony benches/lighting, Square Root did the florals and had to improvise for the ceremony as the original plan for the front was not a good idea as it was a bit windy, but what they did by turning the pedestals sideways was brilliant, David I love you xoxox

The gentleman who handles majority of the wedding tastings and follows me without question on the In N out burger parade, ladies and gentlemen, I present Chuck xox

Joe Latter was on board for the night taking photos, some of these are his and some of mine/the bad ones, lol, are mine.  De Capo players/5 piece strings, provided beautiful ceremony/cocktail music, and my pal Peter/Vive Entertainment brought in the NY 2 times, East coast and West coast and kept people there/dancefloor full inbetween, kudos to him, I had my doubts, lol. OC Flower Wall for the champagne hedge we used at one end of the room for the 9pm NY champagne toast and after that for a selfie backdrop, Viralbooth OC for the surprise Photobooth that opened after dinner at the other end of the ballroom, Design Visage for hair/makeup (never a late bride for me unless the bride says she wants to be late, whaaaaaaaaaaat?? lol) Luxury Lifestyle Studio/video & drone, our rectangle mirror tables came from Chiavari Chair Rentals, and Luxe Linens provided the napkins.

As always thanks to our partners at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna, teamwork always makes the dreamwork.

Till next time

Four Seasons Westlake Village-Indian wdg

Well this was our last Indian wedding of 2019 and a goodie.  Working with Samar and her mom (who funnily enough just emailed me to check in and thank me again for doing such a great job/working so hard on Samar’s wedding for them and apologizing that it has taken 4 months, but that is aok, I know that there are many Drs in the two families that are all working front lines for coronavirus, and that is very worrying for them all.  Samar and i had been communicating since the wedding so I knew they were happy with everything, lol) was just great, they were both lovely and calm and got things done as needed as we went along.  Above and below are a bunch of pics from the 2 day event.  This was our 2nd multi day Indian wedding at Four Seasons and each time it has been a fabulous property to be working at and a great experience for the guests, in house or not, we worked closely with Nicole on this wedding and she was excellent, we made a great team.

Creative Cakes from Orange provided the cake which we had floating which looked beautiful.  Luxe Linen provided the linens/napkins for the big dinner/dance celebration.

Bloombox Designs did the floral both days and an amazing job it was, the mandap was created by the team on the day there also, fabulouso.  It was great to see our fave Indian wedding hair/makeup artist and dresser, Oscar, we don’t see him often enough these days.  We had Special Occasions both days/Ajay leading the crew.  Kumba for the rentals and floor covering for the Sikh wedding on day 1.  Natraj did the catering for both days, and TMMPRO did the draping for the ceremony and lunch/dinner/dancing ballrooms.

Day 2 the cocktail hour was spent on the lawn by the waterfall and we had my new fave vendor Amy Serrano play her electric violin, amazing energy.

For the Baraat we had our Daisy bring the groom in and for the vidai the old fashioned car, and i loved it when the guys got behind to push it out, it didn’t need it, they just wanted to do it, lol

Thanks to Jim Kennedy and team for being great as always to work with for both days, and the same to Impressive Creations, both companies are part of the top in S CA

I just loved the clean look of the B&G stage for the celebration dinner/dance.

Another great wedding and an awesome way to end 2019 xoxo

Till next time

Ritz Laguna Destination wedding-Plaza

Aaaaaaah my sweet sweet Molly and Yuan.  So loved helping them with their wedding, and this is another story about how we all end up with who we should be working with and when it doesn’t work out there is a reason (i always find the reason out after and thank the Universe above for sure, lol).  It was a sat or sunday and I was in the office waiting for a couple to come in and detail their wedding/day which would normally take about 3 hours.  About 20 mins after their time they were not there so I called and the groom said he had been working and got caught up and they would not be able to get down from LA that day so we setup a phone detail for during the week.  Now folks, it was a weekend in the 2019 wedding season (which was crazy busy) and I didn’t have many of those off, so i had got out of bed early, showered etc, and was now thinking, whaaaat!! lol  Then my phone rang and this lovely lady started asking me about my services and then asked could she come and see me, I was just about to leave the office to go home, so I asked how long do you think before you could be here (not sure where they were coming from) she said, 15 mins, i said, let’s do this.  They came in, we chatted, they signed me on the spot and we did our budget/task meeting right then and there, so i was in the office for about the time i would have been with the detail meeting, and all worked out perfectly.  yayyyyy  Molly loved what she saw from past weddings I had done in the Plaza Room at the Ritz Laguna (where we do the most weddings each year and have been that way for the past 19 years, our #1 venue and we have stayed on the vendor list that whole time which I think says a lot about us and it’s an honor that I don’t relax about, but it was not in their budget which made her sad, so that is when relationships help a lot and your being flexible.  We ended up making it work by their wedding being on a sunday in November and daytime, we started at noon, done by 5pm, perfecto and Molly’s dream wedding happened and I know it was because she told me many times on the day and in a beautiful email I got from her afterwards.

So we pulled a fab vendor team together, EBD Floral-awesome job as always, Luxe Linens for linens/napkins, TMMPRO for the draping/benches/dancefloor+decal/chiavaris, Peter/Vive Entertainment for all the music, and Will/Resonance Vision (some of these pics are his and some mine, normally the darker ones, lol) who they found and wanted because he spoke the same language as the parents who spoke no English and they wanted them to be comfortable, he was lovely to work with.

Thanks to my partners at the Ritz Laguna, as always we are the team that make the dream a reality, thank you, thank you, thank you xoxxo

Till next time

Ritz Laguna – Grand Ballroom wedding

Another awesome couple.  Destination wedding coming from NY and their guests from all over the country and other parts of the world, it was a mutli day celebration of them.

We pulled together the best vendor team, Duke Photography, Scenemotion Films, Square Root of course for the florals, Liventgroup for the band/music in all areas, Harrys Party Rentals for the rectangle mirror tables, mirror tops for our round tables and awesome bar that was the center attraction of our room and TMMPRO for the dancefloor/draping and stage cover.  And of course to our partners at the Ritz Laguna, as always, teamwork makes the dreamwork and wedding dreams come true xoxox

Casa Del Mar Santa Monica wedding

Maura and Cole got married at a church not far from the hotel and as most guests were staying at the hotel or going to be valeting there at some point, we had shuttles going to/from the church which made it easy for all.

I just love this ballroom, it has windows and lots of beautiful chandeliers (that have a whole story to them) and the walls and carpet colors are so light, it’s really pretty.

thanks to Anya Kernes for the pics, to TMMPRO-dancefloor/B&G sofa/lighting/chargers, Sebas Flowers, Pixter Photobooth, DJ Krieger for great cocktail and dinner/dancing music, they were a party crowd so it didn’t take a lot but he kept that dancefloor full, we did extend him, oh yeah, Fantasy Frostings for the cake, and the great team at Casa Del Mar, looking forward to our next one for sure xoxox

Hotel Maya – Indian wedding

I really loved working with Sonia and Neerav on their wedding, fun and fun!

We had the baraat going alongside the waterway with our groom on the horse, followed by the milni and then the traditional ceremony officiated by my favorite India Priest Shukavek Dasa.  Then lunch at a different area of the hotel followed by the vidai, the farewell of the bride and groom as they head to the groom’s family home, which was done in a really fun way, they left in a yacht and went for a nice cruise, then came back and got in a limo and went to the groom’s family home.  Then back they came to get ready for the nights festivities

Cocktails were held in the area in front of the Pavilion where they ceremony had been earlier in the day.

Then into the Pavilion for the dinner/dance, where one whole side is windows and looks over to the city of Long Beach, at night it reminds me of looking at Manhattan!! love it

We had a great vendor team on board for this one: Greycard Photo, Robles Video, Drea for hair/makeup and dressing our bride, Amit/3D Sounds provided all the music and mceeing starting with the Baraat & the dohl player, through ceremony, lunch, cocktails, then dinner/dancing and the lighting, EBD Floral for the gorgeous florals & helping us with our unique idea for placecards!! BEL for the stage draping & décor, TMMPRO for the rental chairs and chargers, and of course to the team at Hotel Maya, we love working with you all at your unique property where we feel like we have gone out of town to do the wedding!!

Till next time

Ritz Carlton Terrace Salon wedding

I loved Sally’s ideas for her wedding and she had a friend who did florals and could bring her vision to life.  She had low hedges at the last row of chairs at the ceremony which looked really good on the grass, lanterns going up the aisle and beautiful vases/florals that were used inside beside the B&G sofa, and some lovely big round hedge balls at the front of the ceremony!!  In the ballroom the centerpieces varied by table, led lit up crystal vases or chandeliers inside acrylic boxes for the centerpieces.  Very effective

The flowers were really pretty, look at that hydrangea above and also what he did in the goblets/candle holders with the roses!!

We had a 100 white dove release by White Flite who i always use, after they were pronounced man and wife at the ceremony, much to the surprise and wows of the guests.  We had traditional drummers and dancers lead the bride and groom into the ballroom and do a performance and get the dancing going before dinner!! Love that for good energy at a wedding.   And thanks to the rest of the vendor team for as always making my job smooth, Joe Latter Photographer (think all the photos above are mine, he sent me his but i can’t find them and wanted to get this blog out!!), The Emotion Picture Studio for video, Peter/Vive Ent for the cere/cocktail/dinner/dancing music and TMMPRO for the dancefloor and chiavari chairs.  And always last but never the least, my family/team at the Ritz-Carlton, together we make people’s dreams come true. xoxoxo

Waterfront Hilton Wedding Celebration

We probably do a wedding every 5 years at this hotel and when this family and i sat down to get a feel for the vision/style they were wanting, i knew immediately the new ballroom in the new addition of Waterfront Hilton would be perfect.  The parents of the Groom booked me to handle a wedding reception party here in CA for their friends/family that would not be travelling to Baltimore where the traditional Indian wedding celebration was to be held a few weeks earlier (we ended up going to Baltimore and handling the grooms events/hospitality for them there also, but that’s another blog).  I have another Indian family right now i am working with on only the Groom’s events also, so maybe this is turning into a new market for me??!!

The Groom’s mom has great style and vision and I pulled the perfect team together to make it happen for them, they were so pleased.  She loved everything so much, she keeps in touch with me and 2 months ago, 2 years after we did these events, she reached out to see if i needed help as she would love to work with me on weddings.  Love it!!

We had lots of fun elements that had people oohing and aahing.  We brought a live wedding painter down from San Francisco and they were thrilled with the end result.  we started her outside and she finished the painting in the ballroom, she caught all the elements in the painting, it was awesome  http://www.taliakoval.com.  We had a Taj Mahal martini luge which was popular for the drinks and as a backdrop for selfies, by Carving Ice.  We had a photo booth, my go to Viralbooth OC/Shanna works with whatever i need, always customs timing etc for me

We did a mixture of rectangle and round tables in the ballroom and even their sweetheart table had their stage behind them and because we did my favourite round dancefloor from TMMPRO with an awesome decal and he did the lighting, we had curved tables each side of B&G for their grandparents and parents which i thought was just lovely

Thanks to Joe Latter photography for the photos, wish we had of had you come to Baltimore, they would have been much happier and got what they needed with you there!!   Hair and makeup by Dolled up by Lulu’s team, Wedding cake by Sweet Traders, Music was by Amit/3 D Sounds, my fave Indian dj company, we used his huge LED screen which was great, florals by EBD Floral, Karla always listens with her heart and pours more into any event of mine than just flowers, and of course the team at Waterfront Hilton lead by Vanessa who i have known for probably 15 or more years – a true professional. xoxoxo

Till next time

Catchup

Well, as the main wedding season winds down here (keep in mind we are really a year round option here in S.Cal due to our great weather), I realise that there were lots of other great weddings, couples, and things that happened that I have not mentioned so here is a recap below:

I had a bride that was very crafty and had brought a lot of ‘items’ over the year to be incorporated somehow into her decor, we found a great florist who works with that kind of product and ideas who pulled it off beautifully, could have looked cheesy, but it ended up looking very elegant, and the groom got to have his craps table in the corner, and play his drums with the band!!!

I had a couple from Texas and two from Arizona, where everyone flew in and had a good three day type celebration, I always have NY couples but their guests tend to come from  various states and also have a lot of local guests, so it was great to see groups of 40-60 all coming in to share an event with a couple (as I would too, you have every reason to want to come on over to the West Coast/S.CA/the OC)!!

I had a couple of weddings that ended up with major NZ connections (I am from New Zealand), one a couple I had been working with had applied for residency in NZ and it came through while we were planning their wedding here, so in the middle of planning the wedding, the groom relocates to my home town (isn’t that getting wierd) where he has a job, the bride goes down for a visit and ends up coming and going three times, as does the groom who came back for the tasting and then again of course for the wedding) and now they are there enjoying the cold weather!!!! (but great lifestyle and people).  Then another couple who were a lot of fun, we had a beer bar with 13 different types of beer on it, two martini ice luge with different colors and names for the couple, strings for the cere, reggae guy for cocktails, Mariachis to lead guests into the ballroom for dinner and then play during dinner (and again, another reason to hire a seasoned co-ordinator, the groom had hired most of his musicians off a certain web site, I had called and checked several times with each one/confirmed etc, then two hours before the mariachis were supposed to play I got a call that they were not coming they had been arrested due to not having papers (I can’t make this stuff up), so I immediately made two calls to two mariachi groups I use and recommend only, you pay more, but quality and reliability is not an issue, one could not make it due to another event (but he has a couple of times before when similar situations have happened last minute) but the other group was up in LA playing and made a 50 min drive down in time to start playing when dinner  began – whew!!  Now the couple knew by now there would not be mariachis to play them in and thought that was it, so when the toasts ended and the MC announced dinner was being served and the next thing the couple heard was mariachis starting up and saw them walk in the room, the bride was in tears and the groom couldn’t stop smiling – those are the moments that I know I was able to make a difference and add an important moment to their memory of their celebration.  Anyway, I digress, then they had a Frank Sinatra singer do the last hour of dinner, and an Elvis impersonator do a show 1/2 way into the dancing time, but the part I loved most was, their band was a group of guys from  New Zealand.  So easy to work with, no divaish issues/demands, played when people were dancing and only took breaks when they could see the crowd needed to break also.  Very cool/hip guys.  Aaaah, made me miss home.

This is how their ballroom looked:

I had one Chinese bride where we had 7 dress changes.  I feel like I spent more time in the changing room/head under dresses than out on the floor!

I had a bride who was looking to book me a year ago for her  August wedding, then found a location that provided a  day of co-ordinator and decided to go that route, oh well.  Well two weeks before her big day, I get a frantic email to see if I was still available as the hotel person had flaked on her and she was not comfortable at all and needed my help.  I had a  morning wedding that day, so had my lovely Teri and Peni head up there and get things going and I was up there in time to get the ceremony started and see her thru the end and ensure she got to bed with happy memories.  Wow, fate sure has a funny way of bringing you back to where you should have been/stayed from the beginning.

Lots of cultural weddings and had quite a few Jewish celebrations, which I love as they are normally on Sundays, and the hotels are so much quieter, so you can do ketubah signing, couple meeting, and everything you want to do when you want to do it, without much in the way of conflicts or space being tight at the locations.

Of course, none of these celebrations come to fruition without the tastings, floral meetings and the detail meetings I have with my couples, so I was kept pretty busy and time  seemed to go very fast.  Thank goodness the weather is holding out so I can feel like I am having my own summer!!  Most of the time we end and we are in full fall/winter type weather and it is so sad.

A couple of nice events I made it to over the season, one was held at the Sheraton in Carlsbad,  a really lovely property that if you didn’t have kids dragging you to Legoland you would have no idea they are there, and then was down at the Park Hyatt Aviara, formerly the Four Seasons, and happy to say it seems to be exactly the same which is nice, such a lovely property and experience.

Well that winds it up for me on this one

Till next time
