Beautiful couple and beautiful Ritz wedding

Working with Erika and David over the past year was just a joy.  Very busy couple with kids going here and there and travelling and busy with work, so sometimes wedding planning halted and then we would get going again.  That is the beauty of how I work, I could pull your wedding together in a week, but for most brides that would freak them out, so anytime longer than that means you can halt anytime you want/need to  and there is no panic/pressure from me!!!

Erika had inspiration pics that she pretty much stuck to through the process and they were very much a reflection of her, soft, lovely and in love with love

All the tables had these lovely floorlength linen overlays and we did not use the Ritz baseplates (2 to choose from) this year my brides are loving these new chargers I get through one of my vendors.

The furniture setting on the balcony was actually copied from a wedding they had gone to, but we added florals to the wrought iron and Erika provided the rug which means when she sees it at home it will remind her of her wedding, love that

In 16 years of doing weddings in the Plaza Room no one ever brought up the idea of draping the whole room, but over the years I had brides who wanted to cover paintings in there so we had been creative with draping particular areas, placing trees and placing something on the mantle to cover the fireplace picture, but draping the whole room, hmmmmm. So when Erika said lets do it, I was excited to see the outcome, and it was

l

beautiful, and now all my brides are doing it.  It totally transforms the room and makes it soft and romantic and elegant, intimate and I think it makes the room feel a bit bigger.

We had an awesome candy table setup in the foyer during dinner and guests made to go bags or grabbed some to eat later in the evening when they felt the need.

I love it when a bride lets me guide them to the perfect team for them for their vision/style and budget, and when I say budget, anytime you look at the pics from my couples weddings, whatever you think they may have spent, in reality they probably spent less because I know the right people out there.  Our awesome vendor team on this wedding was: Frank Salas for the pics above and some were mine, Design Visage for the beautifying of all the ladies, Elegant by Design/florals, Chiavari chair rentals, TMMPRO, The Sugar Philosophers, Peter/Vive Ent, Naples Strings, White Flite Dove Release, and my fave Rabbi, Rabbi Ian!! And of course the wonderful ladies and gentlemen at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel xooxoxo

Till next time

Park Hyatt Aviara wedding

So pleased I got my pals at Square Root to come on board with this one, vendor relationships are so important and that can not be forgotton or misunderstood.  I knew they were the only vendor that could pull off the vision and do it for the budget we had which was not grand.

A very modern look and lots of detail

Sorry for the loopy pics, but they were taken by me as I didn’t want to wait for the photographers, lol

When I first mentioned ice martini luge it was okayed, but it turned out even more fabulous than I was expecting it to be, thanks to my friends over at Carving Ice, guests loved it and had their pics taken with it, which happens a lot, and then there was the hanging cake…….. I have never seen an executive pastry chef at a hotel put so much heart and pride into a cake, and the hotel was quite excited, it was their first hanging cake, love to be a first anywhere, lol!!

On the floral sample meeting day which was done through facetime as our bride could not be in town, I started thinking about the placecard table and where we would have had a great display I got a little crazy and it turned out fabulous, thank goodness our B&G went along with a lot of my inspirations or sudden thoughts on what we could do here and there, and even better, later that night the placecard table turned into our fabulous candy station for guests to take on their way out.  The Sugar Philosophers did an awesome job and also provided all the custom signs/water bottles and bags (the bags also got used for the donut station which was making lovely hot donuts right there!!)

Draping, dancefloor and decal (which was their initials quite large in gold), lighting, plus the chiavaris we used at the ceremony site were all done by TMMPRO, love working with Jack and his team xoxoxo

You may have noticed, different table shapes and chairs, the family and bridal party tables were white and gold curved tables and had florals above and on the table along with hanging orbs with flowers in them and we got lovely white and gold chairs to go with that look.  For the round tables, a variety of centerpieces but all complimenting each other and beautiful white linens along with the hottest wedding rental chair right now which we got through Chiavari Chair Rentals/Steven and he also had a fabulous new charger that we used and I have used a couple of times since now also, its so pretty.

Lots of special components involved, we had strings for the cere, but not a normal quartet I had to do quite a bit of hunting and found a trio that could get an electric violinist to play with them, and it was fabulous.  We had Peter/Vive ent as our dj mcee (and he kept the dancefloor full to where we extended for nearly 2 hours, and it was daylight saving night so when we ended and got in our cars it was saying 3am instead of 2am, lol, but there were some relatives of the groom’s that have a band in Nashville and the groom really wanted them to play a bit, they obliged, groom told me they were good, but they were really good, kind of In sinc style and songs, soooo good, they did the first dance song, mother/son song and also a dedication to the B&G where everyone just sat in their chairs and watched/listened, a really nice touch, kudos to The Katina’s.

Design Visage did the prettying up (not that these girls needed a bit of it) and we kept one of the artists on through the end of the main events for touchups, which is always nice if there is going to be a gown change or you just want to change to a more party style look than wedding style with your hair and or makeup.

Frank Salas has got a new venture in addition to his photography, a photobooth which is hooked up to all social media etc, as he was not booked for photography on this night he was very kind and came and operated the booth which had an awesome backdrop that our bride was really into, hedging with a neon sign, and we had a beautiful sitting area which we ended up moving to the side because it was taking up room and too many people wanted to have group shots infront of the cool backdrop, but never fear, it was used by folks to sit in while waiting for their turn!!  Waste not I say.

You can check Hoo Films out, google them, they did a great video overview of this day/event which turned out great.

Thanks to the fab folks at Park Hyatt Aviara, they rolled with the weird situations we had due to careers getting in the way of wedding planning (lol) and went over and above in absolutely every aspect of this event.  Looking very forward to my next one there.

Till next time

Pelican Hill lovely

0025

So wonderful Ali had been in touch from the other side of the USA, New Jersey, and she wanted an OC wedding (I would say 70% of my brides are from out of state and a big group of those are from NY/east coast), in fact had seen Pelican Hill and wondered.  So we went to contract without a location, we had a budget and that meant having to make some compromises to make it work if she wanted the location of her dreams.  She was a bit hesitant so we ended up with estimates from a bunch of great LA hotels also, any of which I would have loved to see her wedding at.  This is where a couple’s flexibility and the relationships your wedding planner has with hotel peeps can come together and miracles happen, groom and I have a big chat (I was actually in New Zealand at the time) and we were able to secure Pelican for them, yahooooo

0042

Speaking of the groom, and this happens sometimes, they get really into how the cake looks or the flavors, he came up with the design for each tier, I came up with the cake floating on a bed of lush florals, and voila we had a focal point for the round room area.

0436

Mother nature played a trick on us for this September wedding, there was no sign of the Pacific Ocean for all these folks who had flown in from the east coast, thank goodness they were all in the area for a few days so they did know it was there at some point!! But some of the pics with the sea haze/fog in the background were quite beautiful

0573

I promise you there is an ocean out there, well at least for cocktails the ceremony area was their view/backdrop.

0582 0602

We came up with elements that a lot of their guests would not have seen, two different centerpieces, one very candely and the other lush/pretty, and of course who doesn’t love a floral chandelier.  The pic above does not do this any justice, you had to be below looking up to realize how many flowers were in there and how beautiful it was. And if you look closely enough you will see the white grand piano left hand front of the ceremony area for the pianist to use, totally completed the whole ceremony look.

0643 0872

We draped the room, not because you have to but we wanted to and it does always transform a space and even for a large event can give the illusion of intimate.  We do this a lot for my couples not from the OC and for some from the OC, the In N out run at the end of the night for food to go/take as you are leaving, always a hit.

0875 img_9936

Of course my fave, the 100 Dove release after the intro of B&G to all at the ceremony, something guests always talk about.  And I love it when we have enough lawn to really go big on the aisle petal scroll, out the back.  Above the view looking towards the rotunda and below the view from rotunda looking down the aisle back towards cocktail/ballroom area.

img_9940 img_9945 img_9951 img_9960 img_9961

Its all in the details, that’s how people know you care and took time, the ceremony was live streamed for those guests not able to attend.  We did my fave white glossy/seamless.decaled dancefloor, we actually used the hotel linens in the ballroom because they fit perfectly with our look, but we did rent La Tavola linens for the cocktail tables using an inspiration picture Ali had from the beginning, and she is not the first bride to use that particular picture with me, lol!!

img_9966  img_9969 img_9975

Love this aerial view of the ceremony site from the drone and it really shows how there was no ocean to be seen!!! Crazy.

0019

I don’t normally post people pics, but I thought this picture was so soft and really showed what Ali is about, family and love.  This is where having everyone wear the palette of the wedding totally worked and it made me stop and notice.  And, that fog in the background added to the whole effect, yes I know how to make lemonade out of lemons, for sure.

We pulled together a great vendor team for this one, thanks to Joe Latter for the pics above, Marc/The Emotion Picture Studio for video/drone/live streaming and for over 20 years we have done beautiful weddings together, Design Visage for beautifying the ladies, White Flite for the Dove release/perfectly timed as always, Flowers by Cina for orchestrating the vision we had on paper into reality, Chiavari chair rentals for the rotunda and ballroom draping-gotta love a chandelier in the rotunda.  To TMMPRO for our chivaris/round dancefloor&decal and lighting, and to my fave band for many years who adjusted their line up to suit the broad range of music Ali wanted to be able to share with her guests, so easy to work with and they handled ceremony, cocktail and dancing music with ease, Full Spectrum, thank you Adam for being such a great partner and wonderful asset to any wedding celebration/memory for guests.  Then we have the Pelican Hill Team, from Pam to Clancy to the wonderful team actually interacting with the guests on the day, classy and elegant as always.

Till next time

Huntington Beach & Hotel wedding

IMG_0351 IMG_0496

The beach theme made its way across the street to the placecard table, driftwood and orchids, love it.  There wasn’t a memorable enhancement they weren’t up for, doves at the end of the ceremony, even on the beach, yes please.

IMG_0081IMG_0646

Great shoe shot by Frank Salas, great looking shoes but not worn much that day by our lovely bride, as always!!  The pic above on the right is the surfboard martini luge which was a huge hit

IMG_0676

Such a great time working with these two on the planning of their wedding.  They were the third referral from someone I know in Arizona, my Arizona couples love the beach and that is where the weddings are held.  During the planning a baby was even born!!  So Nick is a surfer and we had a martini luge created of a surfboard which was out on the balcony with the Pacific Ocean in the background, and Annemarie was such a great bride in trusting and going along with a lot of my thoughts on how to make their wedding look fabulous.

IMG_0689

They sat at a great B&G table, and we had my fave, the round dancefloor in attendance.

IMG_0697 IMG_0699

We mixed up the tables, rounds and rectangles, and that meant a variety of floral looks

IMG_0703 IMG_0719 IMG_0728 IMG_0732

Behind the sweetheart table was a round room, we tried to do the first hanging cake in that room but it just did not work out, so instead had the cake sit on a great acrylic table display and created a cool sitting area.

SubstandardFullSizeRender 2

The wedding ceremony was originally booked at the hotel but as time went along Annemarie asked about getting married on the beach and as they were before Memorial Weekend it was able to happen and look how empty the beach is, so lucky.  Wendy Smith/my fave harpist loved the stage/platform that was made for her, and the ceremony décor was a mix of driftwood and strung orchids moving in the wind, it was really lovely

SubstandardFullSizeRender 5 SubstandardFullSizeRender 6

You need to always look after the guests when doing a beach/sand wedding and the Waterfront Beach Resort were so fabulous in making everything happen and create a great station for the dry and damp cloths for our guests feet.

SubstandardFullSizeRender

We had an awesome team on board for this one, Frank Salas/photographer-thanks for the ballroom pics/the beach pics are mine, Scott Cummings Music band Dirty Sugar, Design Visage for beautifying everyone and ensuring their looks withstood the ocean wind, Square Root Designs for the florals/futniture/linens-we love them so much. Carving Ice for the martini luge-it turned out even better than I had hoped.  Chiavari Chair Rentals for the ghost chairs and dancefloor, Shane Productions/video, Clint Hufft for doing a great ceremony as always, White Flite the best dove release company out there and I always do 100/most impact, and of course Vanessa and the team at the Waterfront Beach Resort.  It was great being back there again, and very exciting with their renovations and new ballrooms and ceremony space that will be on board in the next year, but I have to say, combining the beach with a room at the hotel that looks over to the beach is pretty hard to beat.

First wedding of 2016-Pelican Hill Resort, Newport Coast

IMG_2528

So excited to do this post for many reasons, 1/ Finally I am caught up with my blogging, I was 1 1/2 years behind and spent the past two months getting caught up, and now I am, bo blogging is probably going down to one a week from here on out, whew, lol. 2/It’s a new year and based on the brides I have been booking for this year we are going to have some fun and some beautiful weddings, can’t wait. 3/This wedding was at one of our beautiful locations here in S CA, so looking forward to sharing it with you

IMG_2532 IMG_2533  IMG_2537

This was an intimate celebration for 25 at the fabulous Pelican Hill Resort.  Karina had a great vision and between Chiavari Chair Rentals/Steven, who hung a gorgeous chandelier and  did the draping of the rotunda/cere and inside La Cappella and provided the chiavari chairs of course as well as my fave the white dancefloor (due to how it transforms a space), and Karla/Elegant by Design’s florals at the cere site and then inside along with the candles created a dreamy/romantic atmosphere.  We had a bi-lingual dj from Vox which worked well with this group as there was a large contingency of Columbians that had flown in, present, they also did the lighting.  All the ladies were beautified by the fabulous ladies of Design Visage.  Such a fun/fabulous wedding, the dancefloor was full from beginning to end. Thanks to the wonderful team at Pelican, a 6 star celebration was experienced by all.  It was a pleasure working with you. as.

Talega Golf Club wedding

106

The sweetest couple ever.  Before they would even book me the groom had me sit down and go through a budget with them as he was paying for the wedding and there was no way we could go over what he had to spend.  Based on their flexibility with locations, day of the week etc, I was able to show him they could have a lovely wedding and he would not go over.  Now in saying that, as we went along our bride would be inspired by things that we needed to add in, and as we went along and everything started to come together I knew the Rose Gold chiavaris were a must, so we did end up a tad over but it was all good, bride was happy which made groom happy, as all he ever wanted to do was give her a beautiful wedding.  Aaaaahh!! x0xoxo

We looked at many locations and I had found some great ones that came in under what we had budgeted, but something about Talega spoke to them, so I had my first wedding there and they got a great package/dealio there.

107 110 111 184 185 333  443 444 448 453

Rose gold became our inspiration and we used it everywhere, chargers, florals stands, chairs, I loved the end result. We did a mix of rectangle and round guest tables and it looked great, as you can see

454 468 469 471  473 481

I had the placecard table put in a place they normally don’t put it, right infront of the entrance doors (and I had the guests walk back around the building, normally they enter through a side door, but I am all about the impact of the first time anyone sees the room, I mean that is what we just spent months planning/thinking of, the whole look, right??) but I had my reasons, helped stop the flow of everyone entering the dining room at the same time and I could keep the table there and reuse as candy table/exit favor table.

482 526

529

Now, I can honestly say I don’t have things go wrong at weddings from a planning/component standpoint that I have been involved in, but at some weddings its a guest that throws everything out the window/stops us in our tracks, at this wedding we did have a guest about 15 mins into the dancing have a seizure, he was not responding so paramedics did have to be called and he was taken out on a stretcher, he was close to the dancefloor so hard to keep hidden, lights had to go up/dancing stopped, by the time he was taken we still had 1 1/2 hours left of their reception.  Got to think fast, I don’t want Ashley’s wedding to be over, so I had the groom get on the mic, announce to everyone who it was, that he had seizures before, for everyone to keep him in their thoughts/prayers, and the lights are going to go back down and the music is going to play and they would love the guests to continue celebrating with them for the next hour.  He did it perfectly, the guests ‘got’ it, and the party continued.  Whew.

We pulled a great vendor team together for this one, good vendor friends all there to give 110% percent, thanks to Brett Hickman/photographer and for the pics above, Peter/Vive Ent dj xoxoxo, Dan/Plug Video, Elegant by Design/Karla florist who always pulls it out of the park and exceeds my brides expectations, Chiavari Chair Rentals for the Rose Gold chiavaris-I love using them, lighting to compliment the rose gold look was by Matthew at OC Lighting, and to the team at Talega, very hands on and aim to please.

Till next time
