Balboa Bay Resort Wedding

I don’t often post pics of the bridal bouquet but this one was colorful and so different to most I see, I couldn’t help myself.  Beautiful florals by Flowers by Cina xoxox

So gardeny, Soy’s vision brought to life!!

I love a glass base to a cake and florals amass under

Floral reuse – from the arch to the sweetheart table, works fabulously right?? The cake design was very special, Suzanne took their invite and put key elements on to the cake and if you look carefully you will see a 3rd wee item which is for their wee boy! So sweet.

Yes we did, As a nod to their culture plus she liked the idea, a RED dancefloor!!  Looked awesome later when she had her red dress on.

the tiffany blue was her pop, cake and napkins.  A pretty view from the sheart table

Pics above are all mine so sorry for them not being the best.

Till next time

Balboa Bay Resort-Newport Beach

My lovely Stacy,so enjoyed helping pull her vendor team and vision together, just a lovely special person.  Unfortunately it was raining on her day, that doesn’t happen to me very often, but the weird thing is, when it does we all agree in the end the backup we did ended up looking better than we think the original plan would have!!  Is that fate stepping in again??!!  The ceremony was supposed to be held on the Fountain Patio which I never really liked because there is an exercise room with people in it working out on one side and no blinds, the view above the wall/backdrop to the ceremony is the hotel building, but the neither of the harbor view sites were available so she booked it, but on the good side she was one of the first weddings in the upstairs room that was a restaurant that got turned into banquet space now called the Bayview Room, great views, great dancefloor area already in there and you feel alone up there not in the middle of a busy hotel.

So 1 hour before the wedding the rain just came down, it did stop but by then the ceremony tile area was going to be wet and slippery and I just felt dangerous for everyone, so I ran around the hotel trying to find a room or area that was covered, in case the rain came again, but also with a view or nice backdrop, the banquet room the hotel had as a backup wasn’t doing it for me.  I found an outside cocktail area to the ballroom which due to no event in the ballroom could be used, and the ballroom had beautiful chandeliers/high ceiling so we set chairs in there also to give a cathedral kind of feel, and I took the bride down to both areas so she could decide where she wanted to get married, I felt good about both.  She picked the outside cocktail area, we then used the comfy banquet chairs instead of the white folding chairs to give a warmer feel and set it up.  It turned out aok, the other wedding that was there stayed outside and the guests got wet!!  When the ceremony ended and the bridal party had exited, I gave the signal and the mariachis started playing and they then led the guests through the hotel up the stairs to the balcony where the cocktails were going to be, everyone was smiling as they followed.

Stacy wanted all low centerpieces and karla/Elegant by Design did a great job in making them lush, as well as working with us while we waited to work out where the ceremony was going to be.  The silver and white palette looked great in this room, it really is a pretty/friendly room.  We had the dining all on the carpeted area and the dancefloor was the area infront of the inside bar, giving lots of space and making the dining portion seem more intimate/everyone together.  Thanks to Tony Florez/photography, Susanna/Fine Art for another work of art cake, Harpist through Essence Entertainment, and of course Jeff/Moondance Mobile music/dj-always good working with him, rentals through Monico Décor.

Till tomorrow

Balboa Bay Resort wedding

photo 10 photo 11

I did the sister of this grooms wedding about 4 years ago and have now done 2 of her siblings (1 to go!!) and 2-3 of her friends, so love that, and thankful.

Ceremony was held with Newport Harbor to the side due to the guest count so in order to maximize the water surround the cocktails were held on the members lawn and Maria had a structure an chandelier put out there which looked great, especially with the mega yachts in the background. Then to the ballroom for dinner/dancing.  Maria wanted the siblings/bparty to sit with them but did not want a round table but wanted everyone around the table so they could see each other and chat, but no backs to the dancefloor, so she came up with this rectangle table vertically set and  White Lilac framed them against the draping with the lanterns, it looked quite wonderful.

So, one of the brothers I have done the wedding of officiated, Sweet Art did the cake as always at BBR and this is really one of my fave cake toppers, Shine did the lighting, and because there was an ‘in’ at White Lilac they did the flowers, not their normal look/style, but Maria’s vision came to reality, the balls of baby’s breath looked awesome across the room.  As always the team at Balboa Bay Resort were wonderful to work with.

Balboa Bay Resort lovely celebration

Really enjoyed this bride and her mom. Bride was very busy with schooling on the east coast and mom was bi-coastal ending up in the final months here full time. Just lovely lovely ladies, you can tell by the style of the decor/look how they were, as I do feel all ‘looks’ are always a reflection of a bride or couples style/personalities, which they should be, each wedding should not look like it is one of mine!!

They got married in a church over on Balboa Island and at one point we considered duffy boats to get everyone across the harbor and back, it didn’t end up happening, but I think would have been fun and a cool experience for the guests ………….next time!!

We matched the vendor team to the style/look/personality they had/wanted, and it was fabulous. Thanks to http://www.tonyflorez.com for always being soooo easy to work with and for the pics below. Design Visage for making everyone look fabulous as always, all the way until the end of the event (which is important). Keith Laverty for the floral design and for loving these ladies as I did. Essence for providing the pianist that I have worked with many times in the past and did a great job for dinner music. Dj/Mr Bill (a find from one of my brides years ago and so many of my brides pick him now). Fusion Decor for the chaircovers (looks so rich and elegant/warm/inviting after seeing chivaris so often), table linens, furniture for the balcony, and the white dancefloor (which always pulls a look together/finishes it off). Lake Forest limos for getting everyone from A to B then to C, all without effort and trouble. The team at Balboa Bay Club as it was known then, but now Resort, fabulous job and a beautiful cake designed by the passionate Susanne at Sweet Art. A really lovely celebration.

Balboa Bay Club celebration

I enjoyed Erin very much, she was a really busy professional working woman who lived out of state, and we planned her wedding entirely by phone and email, I did not even meet her until she walked into the hotel to begin the reception portion of the day!!! They had got married at a church who provided a church lady, so no need for me to be there, I could focus on the reception.

Her colors from the beginning were black and white and once we had the budget down, we booked the location which was close to her parent’s home, and then I gave her vendor options that I knew suited her style and budget. There was always a niggle in the back of my mind that a daring look may be fab for her, but we had a cool look going that would be really nice, and then she sent me her inspiration board that she had created, about three weeks before the wedding………. and I was thrilled. I immediately threw my daring idea at her and she went for it, stripes!!! As she said, she should have sent that to me earlier!! LOL

So below is our end result. The Commodore Room at the Balboa Bay Club, Newport Beach, is a great size for 100 or less and has a lovely patio that looks out to the huge vessels berthed and those moving up/down the harbor. The hotel has a really special/boutique feel to it, and I am happy to say I have another there in a couple of months.

Thanks to the awesome team I suggested and that Erin selected (she didn’t want options, I gave her the one I thought was best to spend our time phone interviewing/chatting with in the various categories and she trusted and knew I knew what she wanted and went with me. http://www.studioemp.com thanks to Joel Eckman Maus for the photos below always nice working with Joel and Lorely. My fave band, I am sorry, some tell me wait until I have heard their band then I will sway my thoughts to others and it never pans out, Full Spectrum Band out of Los Angeles, even after they had done 1/2 hour overtime, dancefloor was full and Adam (band leader) put his ipod on and they danced for another hour, until he needed to unplug it to leave as the rest of their equipment was gone from the ballroom. Nisies Enchanted Florist, nothing more to say. Fusion for the black dancefloor, linens and chivaris. Design Visage for hair and makeup, and Lake Forest Limousines for getting everyone from BBC to church, to the beach, back to the club. We even had a martini luge that was their boxer dog Brutis!!!

End of the Season

Well I had an unusual end to the season, I not only did weddings at Ritz Carlton/Laguna and St Regis/Monarch Beach, but  also got to do some for the first time at some different locations.

One, we did the ceremony in the backyard of this couples home in  San Clemente.  They have a great view with the ocean in the background and it was just spectacular, and as it was an intimate event with people who were local yet not Americans, and people that flew in  from around the world, this was a true reflection of them and started the celebration off the right way.  Then we did the smart thing, everyone went to the Ritz Carlton where we did the dining/dancing, so there was no cooking or mess for the couple to deal with or come home to.  What a backdrop, don’t you agree ….

Then a photographer I did a wedding with a couple of years ago had referred me to a father of the bride, that I got a call from 4 weeks prior to the big day, saying they needed someone to pull it altogether and run the day for them.   This one was held at the Pacific Edge in  Laguna Beach.  The venue has changed since I was last there, now it is joined to the hotel and the Beach House Restaurant and the villa no longer has a kitchen and it has an elevator.  Not sure what the plans are for this venue in the future but they seem to be changing things and I would think with a plan in mind.  Anyway I digress, this was an intimate group of 50, mid week, and a very casual event, where the ceremony was held with the ocean right behind, then the guests went up into the Villa for cocktails and then we invited them back down to the dancing/food station area, and the night ended with a lot of dancing and good memories for all.  It was very relaxed feel created by switching out the cere chairs for lounge furniture and leaving space for dancing.  It was a beautiful still night and the view along the ocean/sand down to main beach was gorgeous.  Here’s a couple of pics.

Then I had a wedding where a lot of my St Regis couples have gone for photos, but I have never done a wedding there, the Monarch Bay Beach Club.  Really nice couple, another intimate event with close family and friends, these are such great, warm celebrations.  We did the ceremony with the ocean backdrop and oocktails, and then everyone moved into the banquet room for a private dinner and some even danced, wasn’t the plan but they did, love it.  Variety is the spice of life they say!!

And as the season wound down I didn’t have conflicts with invites to special events, so managed to squeeze in a few, I was invited up to the Avalon in Beverly Hills where a few properties from Palm Springs were showcasing.  What a great property, very low key, kind of retro, and the bar and dining around the pool were popular it seemed with people meeting after work or locals in the area coming by.  Went over to Rancho Los Lomas for a YWD magazine event, such a unique location for a celebration.  Had a lovely lunch with a small group of co-ordinators at the Balboa Bay Club, hadn’t eaten the banquet food there for a while, it was great, the pumpkin soup was divine, and the view of the yachts going by while dining is pretty hard to beat!!  Also went for a lovely lunch and tour of The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.  Down in the same area as Rancho Valencia, but maybe a 30 second walk into the main street of the historic town, you really felt like you had gone back in time or were really really out in the country, yet in reality it is only 15 minutes from the freeway.  So serene and calm and makes you just want to sit by the pool, grab a book and relax.  Lots of lovely locations for ceremonies and outside dining and dancing or inside, all depending on what you want and what size you are.

Stopped by the new hip mexican restaurant in Newport Beach on PC H at an event they had, Sol Cocina, seems like a location with a lot of atmosphere, great for a rehearsal dinner.

La Tavola Linens opened their new showroom on PCH in Newport also. What gorgeous linens they have, a showroom just oozing with quality, all colors, styles, looks etc, fabulous.

Over Thanksgiving I had a few brides who live out of state in town to celebrate, and we made use of that time with vendor meetings and selections, so by the time they left they were all organised and feeling good knowing who their team was and getting a feel for how fab their celebrations are going to be, love it.

Well that is it for the year for now.  Will hop back on when I have something of interest to chat about.

Till next time

Lisa
