St Regis, Club 19

Here’s a quick peek of a Club 19 wedding where it was not all about florals.  Angela and John were quite cool/hip and on a budget and florals were just not their thing.  Our budget was spent on linens/chargers and furniture inside to create a club feel along with the ‘big band’ that Angela had said from the beginning she wanted.  As day became night, the floating candles and votives on the dining tables along with the votives we had hanging from the rafters, gave the dining patio a really romantic feel and the linen color/chairs that complimented, made it feel really warm and comfortable for those that just wanted to stay at their tables

With a backdrop like the one below for your ceremony, you can get away with just a petal aisle and some pew florals to soften the white chair look, no need to spend a lot on florals when that is just not your thing.

Thanks Tony Florez for these pics, as always you are a pleasure to work with,  Flowers by Cina for listening to the bride and not trying to talk her into something she did not want to do, Fusion for the linens/chairs/furniture, Design Visage for keeping Angela’s hair/makeup looking fabulous until the end, and my fave string trio/quartet company, Naples Chamber Ensembles, and of course the team at the St Regis without who, we are nothing!!! lol

St Regis Grand Lawn Wedding Celebration

They got married at the MIssion SJC, cocktails were held at the Sunset Terrace at the St Regis looking down over the dining/dancing area which was the Grand Lawn.

Lovely Alexis was a dream to work with.  Great style and taste, as well as lovely inside and out.  And working with Alexis and her mom was just a wonderful experience.  When she came to me she knew she wanted her wedding dinner/dance to be outside and we discussed a few different locations and scenarios, Alexis loved the St Regis Grand Lawn and wanted a September evening, which could have gone either way, good, or cool and uncomfortable.  Good things happen to good people, she had the perfect evening temperature wise and no wind. They got married at the MIssion SJC, cocktails were held at the Sunset Terrace at the St Regis looking down over the dining/dancing area which was the Grand Lawn.

We had a great time creating the vision, finding the right vendors to fit our budget and style, and then pulling it all together.

Thanks to Keith Laverty for bringing the floral vision to life, to Larry Crandall for the lovely photos below and for always being such a gentleman to work with.  And to Kelly and the banquet team at the ST Regis Monarch Beach for always going along for the ride with me with their five star/five diamond service and style.

I would love to help you plan your perfect wedding celebration.

St Regis/Ritz-Carlton Laguna combo celebration

Well as you can probably guess, I hear a lot of really good stories on how couples met/got engaged etc, and I love hearing them. Mine involved meeting in a bar in a country I was not from and him following me back to NZ, and a ring in a box of my fave chocolates which was in the fridge, and 27 years later we are still married!! Exciting, fabulous, not really, but it’s my story so it is endearing.

Well the wedding you see the pics from below, is what I would call a fabulous story, kept me on the edge of my chair, and our planning process was even exciting, as it involved three way calls with me, the bride at the Pentagon and the groom on base in Afganistan!!!! Can’t reference their names or I would have to kill you (lol), but the bride was flown in to a base in the war zone for a meeting and the groom happened to be their consulting for the US government, a friend of the grooms happened to take a pic on his phone of them from a distance as they were meeting which is really cool, because at that time, no one had any idea what was going to happen in the future. The chemistry in this photo is incredible, she looks like Laura/Tomb Warrior (or whatever that Angelina character was) and he is just a really good looking, debonair English gentleman, that all the vendors and hotel staff feel in love with, believe me if this wedding wasn’t going to work out, there was a line of woman ready!!! So a long distance relationship started, with rendevouz in various parts of the world, India, Morocco, Scotland, I mean this is a fabulous story, and it ended up with the three of us coming together (everything is fate) to help plan two very special events to celebrate them finding each other.

So to find a location was pretty easy, her parents and some family live in the OC, but there were friends and his family flying in from all around the world, so no brainer, the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel it must be with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop, but we needed to do a pre-event celebration where everyone would get to meet for the first time, well ……….. I do this quite a bit and it is so fabulous, we have two 5 star/5 diamond hotels within a mile of each other, different ambiances/views etc, so of course the pre-event needed to be at the St Regis, but do we do the wine cellar (which is awesome) or a smaller banquet room that has a balcony that looks out across property, well, as luck will have it, and how often does this happen, Club 19 was available on a Sat night in the middle of the season (great for my couple but not for someone else, if you get my jist) and we got it. So the best venues at both locations were ours for a group of our size, check!

The pre-event was the grooms, he wanted a Raffles/Singapore type feel without going over the top in spending as he did not want to take away from the actual wedding event. Having been to Raffles myself, I knew exactly the feel he was looking for (it’s a very English/downunder thing, the whole Raffles/Singapore thing), so I called in Keith Laverty/floral designer who I knew would get it and could pull it off, and then be able to come up with something that would be fabulous for the Sunday day time wedding at the Ritz. As you can see below, he did a great job, and they were soooo happy. Pulling these two events together with the bride and groom and the three of us in three different parts of the country/world was not a problem, I actually do it a lot with the couple in one part of the country or world and me here, and sometimes we are in different parts of the country and the wedding is in a totally different part of the country, so thanks to technology, email, websites, etc, it’s so much easier now than it ever was years ago, which is why years ago intimate/un local weddings had to have so much time for planning.

For the Sat night pre-event, we had my fave band/Full Spectrum playing, and they danced and danced (Teri oversaw that event as I was doing a wedding elsewhere), for the wedding day we had my fave dj/Peter of Vive Ent, Katie Clark did the photography for both events, Fusion Decor supplied the linens/chairs/furniture etc for both events. We had Naples Chamber Ensemble for the cere/cocktails on the wedding day, we had a Catholic style ceremony with Father Brian, Design Visage had my bride looking fabulous for both events. My teams/family at each hotel from the office to the staff on the day helping us orchestrate both events, as always did a top-notch job, as you would expect, never have to worry about the food or service with both of those hotels.

For the Sat night event, we had everyone at the one table on the outdoor feeling dining patio at Club 19, and on the Sunday lunch wedding, we were inside the more formal/yet not stuffy Plaza room with a chandelier and fireplace and had everyone at rounds and the B&G at a sweetheart table. So between the music, room layouts, floral look/feel, we were able to create two very different events, and everyone loved both of them. Great, great compliments from everyone, including two beautiful letters, one from the bride and one from the groom, afterwards.

St Regis wedding

This was a fun wedding towards the end of last season. We started off with the normal more calm wedding colors, then mom of the groom attended our first meeting with the florist and felt we needed a pop, and my cool/hip couple were all for it, and we ended up with this fabulously bright wedding, with an edge to the look/feel and some cool elements, like the macaroon ‘store’ that the groom suprised the bride with, at cocktails, and the 100 dove release at the end of the ceremony that was a suprise to the guests.

Fabulous job by Bloombox with the ombre look, linens by La Tavola (I had used the sequin one a couple of months earlier and knew it would be perfect for the direction we were heading in), Cloak Photo for rolling with the flow (and thanks for the pics used in this post), Wendy my fave harpist for the cere/cocktails, White Flite for as always pulling off an awesome dove release, A Wish and a Wisk for the fabulous cake that matched the colors/feel we went for, and last but not least, my team/family at the St Regis – can’t do it without you.

St Regis Monarch Beach Club 19 wedding

I am so lucky to do so many weddings at the unique Club 19 each year, and have done so from the day the hotel opened, so going on 12 years now. And as you can see each wedding is different, that is due to the different visions my brides have and the different vendors that are used. Love it

St. Regis Private Dining Room wedding

I have done a few weddings in this room which is located at one end of Motif Restaurant, and can be closed off. With each wedding we come up with more ways to make a celebration better, and I was really pleased with how this one ended up.

Ed and Jenn had an intimate group of family that would be coming with them and we had a great time pulling the vision/feel of the celebration together. The one thing they umed and haahed over was whether or not to do the full room draping. Well I think as you can see below it was a great decision to go with it. It totally transformed the room, and to be honest these pics don’t do it justice with just how beautiful it really looked and felt in there. So romantic and warm feeling, the candlelight really played off all the draping. Even the hotel staff that had been there for years when this picture was emailed to them could not work out where this room was, so bottom line, everyone including the B&G loved the end result.

We had a lovely ceremony at the Botanical Garden with a solo guitarist playing, followed by cocktails on the Motif balcony where the Pacific ocean could be seen in the distance, and then into the Motif Private Dining Room the guests went, oohing and aahing as they entered (and we used the inhouse music system for background music). Aaaah, that is why we do what we do, love it.

Thanks to Bob Ortiz for the photos and always being a great team player when it comes to the intimate celebrations (as well as big ones), Karla at Elegant By design for helping us pull the vision together and make it happen, Design Visage for always making my brides look fabulous from beginning to end, Father Brian for the great ceremony that included the Catholic/religious touches that were important to them, Fusion for the linens/draping/chivaris, and last but by no means least, our wonderful family/team at the St Regis.

St Regis Monarch Beach wedding

Another great family/couple to work with in the planning/pulling together of their wedding celebration at this wonderful S CA location.

Thanks to as always for being such a great teamplayer and one of our fave photogs out there to refer. Other vendors we knew would match their budget/style they selected, were Video/Shane Productions, dj/Peter-Vive Ent (our fave but so popular soooo hard to get these days, very annoying, LOL), Naples Chamber Music for the cere/cocktail music, Fusion Decor for the linens/dancefloor/chivaris, and their florist was someone they mentioned to me who had done the brides brothers wedding and I had worked with her a few times a few years ago, so we decided she would be perfect for this wedding also, Shelby/Green Leaf Floral. And we can’t forget, our fabulous friends/team at the St Regis, both in the office and on the floor on the day of the event.

ST Regis Monarch Beach wedding

My lovely couple were actually runners up in a competition to have a free wedding at the St Regis. At first I guess they were disappointed they did not win, but as I pointed out to them, now they get to pick/choose and make all decisions themselves and have their wedding, and they did, it all turned out so great. So pleased.

The couple lives in San Diego but come from the east coast and all the guests/family came from that area to, and S Ca gave them our normal wonderful summer time experience by the coast.

St Regis Monarch Beach wedding

Noelle was probably the most efficient bride I have ever had. She was on top of things before she needed to be and when I gave her tasks they were done in minutes. Great couple and a really intimate group that came to celebrate with them. They went over and above with the food/beverage selections, lucky guests, in fact so much so, the St Regis Executive Chef came down to Club 19 to handle/oversee the dish up himself!!!

We pulled together the perfect vendor team for their celebration, thanks to for the pics below (love working with James, he does a lot of movie/LA peeps weddings, so always love it when I can pull him down to the OC), Keith Laverty for the floral design, Fusion for the furniture/linens/chaircovers (yes another bride for me this year that loved the material look as opposed to the chivari), Peter/Vive Ent for the mceeing and dancing/party music, lovely Linda Trott for her always wonderful way she does a ceremony, and the last vendor we had was a flamenco guitarist (like me they love everything spanish and had their honeymoon in Barcelona, where I had been back to only a few months earlier) who played pre ceremony, flamenco for the ceremony songs, cocktail time and most of dinner, I loved it. Giving their celebration such a relaxing, special feel. The relaxing I know was their main goal, and it was achieved.

As always, thanks to Kelly and the team at St Regis, they are such a pleasure to work alongside, we all have the same goals, an event the B&G will treasure forever and the guests will remember.

Elegant St Regis Monarch Beach wedding

Had a lot of fun with this bride and groom in the planning months, and her mom!!!

When they booked me they already had the St Regis booked and the key vendors on board but wanted me to take them through the planning months and keep them on track with what needed to be done and when, and as we went along we finessed the total look. I was able to direct her to the two vendors that really pulled the vision together/gave it the wow factor needed to tie everything together, the draping and backdrop for their sheart-headtable area and their ceremony rotunda, the dancefloor, chivaris and white south beach looking furniture we had outside in a ‘lounge’ area. Think you will agree when you see the pics below it turned out fabulously.

Remember I said we had a lot of fun, these vendors they had participating in their event reflect that, steel drums for cocktails, not just one but a duo, caricature artists for cocktail time and then one during the dancing-end time, and cigar guys for after dinner in the lounge area. Oh and I said mom was fun too, she showed up with toilet rolls that had their names on them and a wedding/marriage cutesy design, LOVED IT. Those went right into the bathrooms and I am sure got a lot of laughs, I didn’t stay in there to find out!!!!

Thanks to Lin and Jirsa for the photos above. And of course to the St Regis Monarch Beach team.
